Linux Crash after idling for more than a day
#1
Using XBMC is an absolute joy, it's a great interface, and fast enough, even on my low power PC. The problem is when I leave it idle for more than a day, then return to it, XBMC crashes as soon as I play any video. This is 100% reproducible after at least 2 days of inactivity (not sure what the exact threshold is). After the crash, I simply relaunch XBMC and everything is fine. Then about 30 seconds later, Ubuntu gives a warning saying there isn't enough memory available to do a crash report.

System:
Asus AT3-IONT-I Deluxe
2GB RAM
Ubuntu 12.04
XBMC 12.2
connected via HDMI to Onkyo receiver.

Do you have power management that is turning off disk drive, usb, or other essentials after a period of time?

See ram usage; xbmc might be leaking.

The only power management I'm aware of is the suspend option in system settings, which is turned off. USB is only used for keyboard and an IR receiver. The disk drive may be sleeping, but I've never touched hdparm, so settings should be default. Is that a problem?

Looking at top, I always have some available memory, it's not totally full.
