The sample you are playing uses the HEVC (wiki) codec which is currently not supported.
More information on the HEVC (wiki) wiki page.

Heh just got a copy of an old movie in HEVC. Lets just say it has Officer Murphy in it. Why do encoders always jump in on new codecs before players can play them. Err well VLC plays it ok but still...

Because, (and this is the case with anime groups in particular) they don't want everyone to be playing their encodes. They want to limit ti as much as they can to small nerdy groups with eleteist attitudes that are parallel to their own attitudes.

It is like with the whole 10bit thing. A completely useless setting to use in the first place. The source material is in 8bit for one. They also claim it fixes this phantom thing that only they can see "colour bleeding". Of course this is complete bull. They also claim it is smaller in filesize. It isn't. And 10 bit encodes are almost always put with flac audio, with increases filesize to a stupid levels.

Whether or not they believe their own bs is another thing. Possibly not, as if you take them to task over it (especially those morons that call themselves coalgirls) they get defensive about it in such an aggressive way, that it is quite obvious that they think what you are telling them makes sense.
