[Resolved] Gotham WMCClient Install - Remote WMCServer - No Live/Recorded Streaming
#1
I have Frodo running in several rooms of the house as clients, all on windows 7, the Livingroom being my central install, currently running Frodo and ServerWMC. It all works fine in Frodo accross all the networked Instances. I have brought up a new Gotham instance on a fresh install of Windows 7 and have been experiencing these issues.

1. Install: Not a big issue really. First install/configure/enable of the plugin in Gotham works, however upon reboot the plugin is disabled but the configuration remains. Simply re-enable and the issue does not return on subsequent reboots.

2. LiveTV: Cannot stream LiveTV.

OpenLiveStream> opening stream: \\LIVINGROOM\Users\Public\Recorded TV\TempSWMC\LiveTV_Mike_ClearQAM_75.2_2014_03_03_11_15_51.ts

From the Gotham instance, I can open that remote folder and monitor it while initiating a channel request. I can see the .wtv and .ts files appear, and almost immediately disappear.

Server WMC is version 1126, Gotham is todays 3/3 build.

I have manually installed the plugin in gotham with the same results.

I unistalled Gotham and installed Frodo12.3 on the same machine, went through the steps to install the plugin and was able to connect to and stream the files successfully. I have since uninstalled Frodo , ensured the system was clean in AppData, etc and reinstalled Gotham only to recreate the error so I'm pretty confident this is not a Windows, Network, or File Share issue. I am open to suggestions. Smile

I see others have had this issue with Gotham, and their problems revolved around homegroup permissions. I don't use homegroups, and can access the file share from my Gotham PC, however, perhaps a difference in Gotham and Frodo is how they use credentials.Maybe this is why frodo can collect the stream and gotham cannot on the same machine?

Mike

******* UPDATE and RESOLUTION ********

As of 3/3/2014, the last XBMC windows version without this bug is in 2/25 build ( XBMCSetup-20140225-0c04283-master.exe ). Running that nightly is a temporary workaround to this issue.

Bug submitted, discussed, and WMC PVR Client to change using UNC paths to URL paths to account for a change in Gotham code on 2/26. Build pending.

I'm not sure why you manually installed pvr.wmc as it's included in the builds already but since you did are you sure you installed the Gotham version and not the Frodo version? Gotham are 0.2.xx while Frodo are 0.1.xx
If I have been of help, please add to my reputation as a way of saying thanks, it's free.

I manually installed only to confirm it wasn't a mismatch in the version Gotham installed vs the latest. It was just a test to be sure. And yes, I verified it was the Gotham version.

From the Gotham Instance, clicking on a live stream results in the following as seen from the Gotham machine. The remote folder is set to share to Everyone/Full Control and accessing it from remote does not require any credentials.

Additionally, I can play any remote file in the Live TV Recordings directory from the Gotham machine in Windows Media Player, just not from within the LiveTV Recordings section of Gotham. However, if I add a windows SMB folder to the Videos section of Gotham, and point it to the Recording folder (\\LIVINGROOM\Users\Public\Recorded TV), I can play any of them within Gotham. So this seems very focussed on :LiveTV and ServerWMC.

It's definitely a permission issue, right click on the share and check out the sharing tab and the security tab to make sure your network user has full access. I would strongly suggest that you make a new "Recorded TV" share and not rely on the "users" share

This sounds like what Ian has been working through with Gotham. See the last few posts of this thread and take a look at which version of gotham he says is working.

Gah! Yeah, it seems an aweful lot like that bug. Well, that explains why it looks like a permissions issue on the surface that is limited to the Live TV section only, and doesn't affect the rest of the Gotham as a whole for the exact same files. Sad I will just wait patiently until it is resolved. BTW, the speed in connection and initiating a stream was very impressive, you've come a long way!

I just verified, XBMCSetup-20140225-0c04283-master.exe is the last working version, after that it is broken for me too. Thanks krustyreturns for pointing me at a stop gap, so I can continue to eval upgrading my entire network!

Well, they just closed it and said it's a 3rd Party WMC Server issue, not an XBMC issue.

Whoops looks like we have 3 threads all talking about this now Smile

As mentioned in the "stuttering" thread, the bug has been reopened and further discussions are occuring. A recent XBMC change broke the ability to use the UNC paths we are sending to windows clients.. I dont think it's intended so hope that a change will be made to restore previous functionality (otherwise we can change ServerWMC to send smb:// paths to windows clients as well)
