Solved XBMCbuntu - crash during start
#1
Question
Hi!

I have tried to install and run XBMCbuntu on my test HTPC. Short info about HW:
Motherboard - ASROCK FM2A78M-ITX+ (integrated Realtek ALC1150 Audio)
CPU - AMD A6-6400K (integrated AMD Radeon HD 8470D Video)

Clear install of XBMC Frodo (12.2) crashed on start-up.
After upgrade to XBMC Gotham Beta (13.0) the same crash.

Here are both crash log files:
First install - http://pastebin.com/XdGTTDXA
After update - http://pastebin.com/J45KUGRw

I have tried to understand these crash logs and here are my two questions:
1. There is a difference in the audio outputs listing: Former Frodo installation has 4 devices (incl. Digital S/PDIF) Gotham Beta has only 3 (without S/PDIF) and all via PULSEAUDIO. Is this OK or I can wait some problems with it? (I would like to use S/PDIF output.)
2. From several other similar threads I think that the problem can be with the video driver. I just would like to confirm this and will appreciate some hints/navigation what diver and/or update I should made.

Thanks you

Thanks - I have tried it...

BUT I have been stopped during wsnipex repository installation with message like "libg3dvl-mesa is not available" or something similar.

ANYWAY I made another fresh install of XBMCbuntu followed by instalation of the current AMD Radeon Catalyst driver (13.12) and it seems that it is working ;-) So I hope, that it will remain...

if you say so... you do not have hardware video decoding though

I am not sure that I understand now... ;-)
You mean that I don't have hardware video decoding with Catalyst driver? Or at all?

Maybe I will give it once more chance as after move this HTPC to my living room I am not able to reduce screen resolution to 800x600 for my old dataprojector... But this should be some work with ...buntu and video outputs settings.

I have played with it a lot and tried almost everything incl. steps described in "Radeon OSS with vdpau". But the result is that Gotham is crashing the same way as Frodo... Here is the crash log: http://pastebin.com/iKbjTN73

But I can see that there is the XBMCbuntu 13 test build so I will give it a try ;-)

So I have made a brand new clean install of the XBMCbuntu beta 13 and everything is working like a charm ;-)
There is only a problem with Pulseaudio which is not listing my SPD/IF optical audio output. But after un-install it everything is OK.

I am going to play with it more and if there will be anything you will see me here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=189553
:-)

Thanks and cheers
