Bug XBMC Crashing video drivers only during play back, while navigating
#16
"explain" in words or in code?

Compare (master): https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/blob/master...o/DXVA.cpp

vs (gotham): https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/blob/Gotham...o/DXVA.cpp

vs (frodo): https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/blob/Frodo/...o/DXVA.cpp

"What has changed" cannot be easily put into words, on v14 DXVA was mainly rewritten. I v13 the DXVA-HD machanism was added, which is a newer DXVA way - here is I think the issue - AMD was not able until now to make their drivers work correctly with DXVA-HD - which is funny with them as always.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Btw. a 15 dollar nvidia geforce will outperform that AMD GPU performance wise when decoding video (it can decode 4K, amd can't) and driver wise obviously, too.

As you see "in between the lines" I am quite fedup with amd closed source department - if you write a software sticking to standards - at the end one brand won't work correctly and this is AMD ...

Here, valve is the same oppinion: http://richg42.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/th...ality.html :-)

Never the less it would be nice of AMD if they could "fix" their DXVA-HD implementation.

Thank you very kindly @fritsch! Ill find a way to report this to AMD and report it back to here with links to the references etc. I'd suggest anyone new doing searches & finding this thread that do also have the exact issue also post & report in the AMD BUG TRACKER as soon as its posted here with all links from these posts and report to AMD as soon as i have a direct link to or How to report BUGS to the AMD Graphic driver Team ill post it here and so others can easily report their problems too. so maybe forcing AMD to look into this further and actually creating a FIX in there driver releases.

I was very close to calling my Hardware Faulty as it is right now it is, and i should escalate a return with amazon but ill wait to see what happens with AMD TEAM!

Any user that has DUAL AMD R9 or whatever would indeed love to run full time CROSSFIREX MODE Guaranteed!

So we all need your help from you and others finding this thread to report the issues please Hi5 ALL Dev's and Users!

Don't put too much trust in them, really don't. We wasted once 2 years of our lives while implementing a non maintained "amd only gpu acceleration" - that AMD let die over the years and did _not_ really care for support ...

Edit: But yeah, windows people are hopefully first class citizens vs. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=ar...xbmc&num=1 (back at the time we had to work with the closed source guys and nothing changed no matter how good the bugreports were) ... at the end even vsync on opengl application stopped working :-)

That is absolutely terrible terrible facto you are telling us all, and if that is the case that flat out sucks! because on my retail XFX box it states clearly front of the box that it does indeed support 4K and full DX11 Support!

Photos of the box here --> Image

so as you can see.

ah! R9 is something else. At least until and including Kabini only the first 256 MB segment of the memory could be used for the unified video decoder ...

- But hey - why not just try it? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5572...k-test.avi

Edit: Play it, pause and see if it's hw accelerated. For xbmc I am not sure anymore on windows, as we had to workaround older amd gpus before and limited the max surface size to 1920x1088
