I\m pretty sure I installed Gotham on May 5th and it's showing as version 13 inside XBMC

Am I doing something wrong?
I'd love to see how much 13.1 improves things.

You probably have the 13.0.1 version then. It shows as 13.0 and 13.0.0 in XBMC System Info. I know I updated it because I did it via NitoTV, and it confirmed it, and I saw it compile to 13.0.1 there. However it's hard to verify it by looking at the version info inside XBMC.

Mine say now:

XBMC 13.0 GIT:20140505-A394E15
Operating system: 13.0.0, version 6.1 (Build 10B144B) Huh

Can anyone verify this?

Thanks, I'll check to see if mine says the same

I left XBMC running last night, just tried to play a movie just now, and it crashed back to front row. At last, I'm able to reproduce a cash :D

I'll keep poking around and post logs and such for devs, but I suspect we're going to find out it's another out-of-ram type crash, for whatever reason. Maybe it's a leak or maybe the ATV2 does some periodic activity in the background, or something.

Which version of XBMC? Frodo or Gotham?

Ive been having this problem since mid feb nightlies. It does seem like it may be a memory thing.
Original problem post - http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=189627

I have movies that will guarantee to crash when played via the normal movie menu.
But if i play the same movie via the video/file list browser, the movie will play!

Im using confluence skin with no addons. Qnap nas, mysql. tried both NFS & AFP.

also i can sometimes get movies to play if after i have selected the movie and it appears to start, i continually press (not hold) the play/pause button and i can get it to play!

This is happening more often now Sad It really used to only happen after being left idle overnight but now it is happening more the 50% of the time that I try and start to play a new file.

I checked the System Info page is showing ~120Mb of free memory, before both successful and unsuccessful attempts to play a file.

Also, the "This file is no longer in your library" when the file actually does exist, but you can get it to play by going through the "Files" view rather than library view seems to have made a come back, even though I haven't seen it since it was fixed in Gotham Beta 1!

These aren't all the same crashes. This thread has become quite unmanageable because it contains multiple different situations :\

Ok another data point that "might" help.

I was getting constant crashing watching a particular file. After rebooting I went in through file mode rather than library mode and it played fine. I will stick with file mode for a couple of days and see if the problem re-occurs (I did this last night for a file that just wouldn't play and it worked as well).

Here's the log file, interesting that it has the same timeout waiting for buffer error as the last entry.

I'll get a log with debug enabled after the kids have gone to bed and I have control of the ATV back.

Here's a log with debug enabled for a file that crashes back to the ATV menu when played through the library view:

Here's exactly the same file being played through the Files view and working properly (I stopped the playback after 10 seconds or so):

Have been having more and more problems with XBMC on my ATV2 since Frodo 12.1 (?)... so I upgraded finally to Gotham (13.0.1) to see if things had improved. They had NOT. Got the same issue described here. Crashing to Frontrow when trying to play a file. This either from a warm boot or from running overnight... downgraded to Frodo 12.3 and the same files that constantly crashed Gotham play just fine.

I.e. I doubt it's an unsupported videofile, but a bug in Gotham.

To be fair, even Frodo stutters with the first 5-10 seconds... starts playing 3-4 seconds of audio, then shows a freeze frame for a few seconds before trying "fast forward" the video to catch up to the audio - which it does usually within the 10 second mark.

Further investigation must be done Smile

Same for me. Playback through library will crash XBMC. Playback through files mode is successful. I uninstalled my " old" frodo completely and installed a fresh Gotham.

The file I tried to play was a mkv, 1280 x 640, H264. A52(AC3) audio.

Does newly released Gotham version 13.1 beta1 resolve any of these issues?
