Gotham: version check error on startup
#1
I installed XBMC 13.0 on a Windows 8.1 system. It works fine but on startup there is an "version check" error message.

How can I fix this?

The Windows user name contains a "è" character... could be related Wink

Done. So?

You need to link to it so we can see it.

But as you say, it may be something as simple as the path. Have you tried it with another user (or run portable with XBMC in a different folder)?
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.

it certainly is the path.
most of us do something like
PHP Code:
import lib.common
https://github.com/XBMC-Addons/service.x...ice.py#L22

which is a .py file inside the addon. This problem will exist for every single addon out there.
nothing we can really do within addons (without being a total hack job) as xbmc screws up the path encoding. This issue has been there since pre-dharma and is biting our asses every single time. We as addon devs would really really be glad this can get fixed at some point.

only thing users can do is change their profile name or run it as portable

I'm not too sure to understand: profile name = windows user name?

JeanPh, could you provide a real DEBUG log?

That's the real one as given copying the file within XBMC (from the tutorial). Why do you say it is not a "real" one?

Apart from this Python do support 16 bits characters. Using 16 bits characters is the best way to get rid of character encoding and all related problems Smile

you don't have DEBUG enabled
