ATV582E or rasberry pi or nuc

Shocked
I am looking for decent setup for playing 720p content via xbmc.I have listed few.

Nuc
rasberry pi
mygica ATV520E
m8 s802

Ideally just want to play content through xbmc.Atv looks promising at £55 which comes with decent remote.also want a good wifi signal which the atv has also.
Dont want to pay too much but would like xbmc to work out the box without too much trouble.
I would like to make a quick decision, suggestions most welcomed.

If the nuc is on the list then go for that over any Android box. Raspberry is cheap but too slow IMHO. Keep in mind that the nuc is barebones and will need ram and hdd to work.. Also it comes with no remote.

None of the above. Get a haswell celeron chromebox and a Flirc instead. Save a bunch of money.

I don't think the Chromebox is available in UK yet hence why I suggested the NUC.

What is your budget?

I didnt want too spend too much that's why AVT520E seemed liked a good buy, all-in-solution.
But if the NUC is the way to go, than maybe I might consider it, What would be the cheapest option in the Nuc?

The the ATV520E is cheap but it has its drawbacks. Android can not compete against the likes of NUC's running Openelec for XBMC in my opinion. The only thing they have going for them is the ability to have the android apps so for things like netflix etc.

I have the Baytrail N2820 NUC with 2GB RAM running Openelec 4.1.1 (Gotham 13.2 beta). it runs smooth as butter with any skin you wish. it would have no problem playing 720p. it can play 1080p DTS HD from my server without breaking a sweat. it comes with Wifi (n) and BT 4.0 built in along with USB 3 . Admittedly it does not come with a remote but the IR sensor works with most RC6 remote.

the NUC is £93 http://www.dabs.com/products/intel-nuc-f...820&src=16

RAM is £16 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-PC3-1280...800+sodimm

You will need a HDD. If you are just streaming then you wont need much storage and would go for a 64GB SSD
something like this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDSSDHP-...s=64gb+ssd

or install Openelec on a 16Gb USB stick for £7
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDCZ48-0...gb+usb+3.0

For remote, I have the following but also use it to control my TV and Sky, there are others like the xbox media remote that are compatible
http://www.amazon.co.uk/One-For-All-Cont...ds=urc7960

Personally if budget is a consideration I also use the brilliant Yatse app on android to control all my xbmc boxes (3 in total) and use my phone as a remote. Also you can use it to turn them on using WOL function.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...e&hl=en_GB

Total cost (with USB ) £116. and you will have a lovely XBMC box. But this my opinion only.

Thanks for the that.

I am using rikomagic mk802IIIS at the mo, does ok job but struggles on certain things. I am using it on wifi so that could be the reason for the slow down and lip sync. I might just wait until my birthday and get the NUC,
does it has a fan in it and is it loud like pc fan?

I have 3x raspberry pi's, a baytrail 2820 nuc and a minix 8-h all running xbmc. Without doubt the nuc is the best, no mucking about it just works. The rest require tinkering to get the best out of them. The minix was my first android xbmc experience and it will be my last till it gets sorted. All android players suffer from not being able to do 23.976 properly and that kills it for me.

My advice would be to spend the extra on the nuc. Go any other route and you will end up spending more in the long run.

I have my nuc behind my tv and i cant hear the fan at all, and i am very easily annoyed by things like that

Do you think the price of NUC is going to come down by October?

They are currently upgrading the processor in these models for slightly higher clocked ones so my guess is that the price wont drop any time soon. If you are running your media from a server you dont need an hdd for the nuc at all as it will run from a flash drive so you could reduce costs there.

Do not get an android box and expect to use it for Netflix, HBO Go, etc. Any services which do work, will only output at SD and many such as showtime will refuse to output anything over hdmi.

Raspberry pi will play 720p just fine. Its the menu system and the general feel of it thats slow, the actual playback is the same as any other xbmc.
