I found something that only played the audio, no video was displayed. Seeking and all works as usual, just no video.

Here is what VLC says about the codec of the file

Edit: sorry for the huge image, my screen resolution is 2880 by 1620, so raw screenshots are interpreted as huge here..

Edit 2: Sorry about not incuding this info: Yes, VLC plays it just fine, as does Media Player.
I'm running Win 8.1, with a GT 735m
It did work in previously in XBMC, but i can't remember how long ago. I'll try to make you a sample (orig is 2GB).

what should we do with this information? does it play on other version like current master or Gotham? mind providing this sample to reproduce? what is you system spec? you didn't even say if vlc was able to play this file.

I found another one that misbehaves, but I'm not sure it ever worked with XBMC. The A/V sync is is off by about a second. VLC plays it OK, while MPlayer also has sync issues.

It's probably worth stressing that it has been increasingly hard to find software that can play this Matrix-promotional video in recent years, but since you asked to test a variety of formats Tongue

Sorry man, I was busy writing my second post when you made yours. I added most of the requested info to my first post.

That is interesting but different to your first post and most importantly not related to DXVA. DXVA can't decode SVQ-3 anyway and this thread is about DXVA. Please open another thread for this.

If you has ffmpeg you can make it simple.

Code:
ffmpeg.exe -i "C:\Patch\to\input.wmv" -t 00:01:00.000 -map 0 -c copy "C:\Path\to\output.wmv"

That copy only the first minute from the file.

a ffmpeg build can be downloaded at this site http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/

NOTE: Thats a command line tool

Thx, I would have tried that if my plan B had not worked (plan was Avidemux, but it kept producing 200mb files regardless of how short the clip). Turns out that a fresh encoding from Windows movie maker also has this issue.

Here is the requested sample, of a modest 27mb https://www.dropbox.com/s/li0ru8hnuh866y...m.wmv?dl=0

While gathering the info I noticed that Kodi did not use my GeForce GT 735M, but was running on the Intel HD graphics 4400 chip instead. My laptop uses Optimus to switch per application, and it was not aware that Kodi should the Geforce power. After manually switching the video displayed fine, but this makes me suspect that others using integrated graphics could possibly have the issue.

In case others do have the issue, here is my info, and a log file for a run on integrated graphics, and one using dedicated graphics.

System is a Sony Corporation SVF15N1C5E with Windows 8.1, kernel: Windows NT x86 64-bit version 6.3
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4500U CPU @ 1.80GHz, 4 cores available
Memory: 16GB
GraphicsGeForce GT 735M / Intel HD graphics 4400

Integrated HD graphics 4400 log file, playback is from line 801. Playback only audio.

Dedicated GeForce GT 735M log file, playback is from line 793. Playback works fine
