Hey guys,

I have an up-to-date firmware Yamaha RX-V475 connected through HDMI to my 50"Phillips.
HTPC onboard Intel display audio & Intel HD Graphics 4600.
Windows 8.1

I recently all-of-a-sudden faced an issue with the receiver decoder when playing videos through XBMC.
Tried playing the same file via WMP and VLC and could change the decoder to PL|| Movie or Neo without any problem.

Played with the audio settings of my audio device in windows and I've seen that when i configure 5 channels through windows - Receiver can't change decoder past "Straight" and when it is on stereo 2 channels - I can change the decoder again.

I left it on stereo and played the file via VLC - all ok.

I tried upgrading to the Kodi 14 - same issue.

Played with the audio settings, moved to 2 channels in Kodi - still stuck on Straight in the Receiver.
Changed directsound to WASAPI - still stuck on Straight in the Receiver.
Receiver is capable of playing all formats (DTS, DTS-HD etc.).
I tried disabling one-by-one - still stuck on Straight in the Receiver.

Only when I disable the Passthrough - i can change the decoder on the receiver - but ofcourse it's irrelevant...

The strangest thing is - once the movie is not on play mode, i can change whatever i want on the receiver while moving between menus in Kodi.

It's frustrating - can someone pllllllease help here?

I'm confused by what you are trying to achieve.

Modes such as PLII Movie or Neo on an AVR normally only work on 2 channels sources as they are designed to expand 2 channels to 5.1 surround sound.

If using passthrough then anything that is 5.1 already should be pased to the AVR and should show as Dolby Digital, DTS or whatever on there.

First step, check a selection of your media files with MediaInfo to confirm the media properties of the files to make sure you are indeed getting results you would not expect.

Second step, enable debug_logging (wiki) then play one of the files where you are not getting what you want.

Third step, grab a screenshot showing all your audio setting, upload to somewhere like imgur and provide the link here.

Finally try & describe more precisely what you want to happen with the audio.

I'm trying to allow the reciever to choose the surround decoder - it's stuck on Straight only in Kodi.
VLC lets me choose.
