I have the following scenario:
I have several Kodi installations in my house. The one in my living room is based on Openelec with 3xDVB-S cards installed managed by tvheadend. All my other Kodi installations can access the tvheadend-backend just fine, but I always have to wake it up manually.
The PVR client in Kodi should have a function to automatically wake up the used backend through wakeonlan. Ideally, it would somehow also keep it running for as long as I watch TV on the according client, since my openelec installation with tvheadend is set to got to sleep when not in use for a certain time. This second function could either be some "keep alive ping" sent by any client accessing tvheadend, or the kodi instance running on the machine with my pvr-backend has to become aware of connected pvr-clients and thus prevent it from going to standby (simliar to standby prevention when recording).
Ideally, these two functions would be implemented indepently from the PVR-backend, so it would work for tvheadend, vdr, etc.
