Each time a new version of Kodi is released, it seems that a lot of older add-ons stop working (script error immediately upon launch) - that is, until the developer releases an update. I've been learning Python and also playing around with developing basic add-ons with the help of these forums and am under the impression that there may be some basic/simple changes that are made to fix these errors that occur right upon launch with a new version of Kodi.

Is there some common versioning code or something along those lines that usually needs to be modified to bring an add-on up-to-date with a new Kodi release, or does it differ a lot from add-on to add-on?

if things break it is due to API changes, not version numbers. if an addon uses a changed/new function, it needs to be changed.
