Linux Openelec/Kodi + AMD 7850 GPU - audio static
#1
am I on a lost cause trying to get my 7850 and openelec/Kodi Linux live working properly ?

works perfectly in Windows - but trying to setup easier installation for family to use to boot straight to Openelec

basically video is perfect, audio is not working properly

I have about 5 AMD HDMI port outputs to choose from, and only one outputs any sound

but any sound output is overlaid by either repeats, or static, or both

so for instance menu "click" sounds, I hear repeated about 8 times for each single click, and the repeated clicks are distorted

youtube via addon - 2 channel LPCM you can hear the content but overlaid with a lot of static/distortion

whats even stranger is that the audio "codecs" work - DTS, DTS MA etc - in passthrough - but even they are overlaid with distortion and static - which I have no idea how is possible

have no issues with Pi2 - so must be the audio output from my 7850 + Linux

Receiver is a Denon 7200

any ideas - or should I just give up trying to get to work ? thanks

Upstream Kernel Bug. Most likely: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77002 and https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77677

Absolutely nothing we can do.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

ok no worries - thought that may be case - but thanks for reply anyway

I could replace the GPU for a Nvidia one but the 7850 is a pretty decent one and it seems a waste - I may just go Nvidia Shield or equivalent
