Hi,
The current setup is that the PI is connected with an HDMI to the TV. The speakers are connected with an RCA in the audio-out of the TV.
Will a DAC (HIFIBErry, iqaudio) make things sound noticeably better?

The dac HIFIBErry, would help to avoid the TV internal DAC and get better sound, but all depends of what speakers type you using.. plastic speakers with tiny tweeters never sound good.
Get some proper speaker feed by an amplifier.

Thanks for your answer. I should consider getting one then. I have some active speakers, I think they are okay...
