KODI updater

Why can an app like Firestarter update KODI, but you can't update KODI within KODI?

Can't it be built in?

nope. one app updating another is very different than an app updating itself.

It definitely can be built in, but it is rather at the difficult side, and platform-dependent at that. Essentially the gist is that you cannot overwrite a running application. There are ways to overcome that, but none really easy.

That aside, myself, I would rather manage the Applications folder (or its equivalent on another platform) explicitly and manually, thank you very much — but of course, this is a subjective opinion and YMMV (not that the darned Apple Store approach helps here, but that's completely beside the point, sorry for the digression).

Speaking from experience, I did self updater for pivos and while it can be done, one should not. There are just too many things that can go wrong with zero chance of recovery. Specially if the app is also launcher.

This topic comes up every few months, I say the the same thing... Search must be broke.
