i've done a quick search this morning and came up a little blank - i was searching on odbc so i might have missed something. I was thinking for all library manipulation, NFO creation, thumbnail creation.. why are we not working with the database directly?

It's easy to write the code to grab the database (ftp) to a local copy. then odbc in and then run all the user interaction, such as new movie searching and inserting, and then ftp back to the xbox.

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts on the matter.

while certainly doable, any app choosing to do it this way is utterly at the mercy of us not changing how the scheme works. that's the main nicety with the in-the-middle xml format - app maintainability and it means i dont have to think about these things when doing changes, a very big plus for me personally
