v18 Choppy video/frames skipping
#1
I tried the new Kodi 18 (because I want the voice search support on Android TV) and it plays all videos with a skipped frame(s) every few seconds. Was there any significant change that could cause this? In 17.6 everything plays smoothly. I have Sony xe8096 with android 7.0.

I have noticed the same problem on my Android TV. I was using kodi-20171221 without experiencing such problem than this week I have upgraded kodi to kodi-20171227 then tried kodi-20171228 and kodi-20171229 but in all of them I have noticed the same issue you reported. I would suggest you to try this release: kodi-20171221-fb653781-master-armeabi-v7a.apk and let me know please.

Did you by chance set a negative audio delay? See here:

No, I did not.

I tried the nightly 20171221 and there it plays smoothly. I have registered the problem in 20171224 (and then also in 20171228), so it must be somewhere in between 21 a 24. I can maybe narrow it down to exact version later.

I can confirm that this is affecting me as well. I’m running an android tv box based on a Broadcom 7252s and had to roll back prior to Dec 21 to get my playback running smoothly again with a vanilla install and no addons.

this happend to me also i rolled back as it gave me a headache, glad a fix is on the way Smile

EDIT: actually i went back to 12/21 the version linked above and im still getting choppy framerate with MediaCodec Surface OFF i tried a really old version 11/21 and still getting choppy framerate with MediaCodec Surface OFF. i use surface off quite abit to zoom 4:3 properly to fill widescreen. i know it doesnt seem to be related to toolchain or whatever but just thought id report the issue. can one of you with perfect playback with 21 try it with surface off. i am running this on my sony bravia w800c with marshmallow. everything runs fine once i go back to 17.6
