Problems extracting DTS core audio from DTS-HD files
#1
Notebook > Receiver>>TV

So my receiver only accepts SPDIF as input and only decode DTS and Dolby Digital ( no HD formats)

When i play some DTS-hd file on players like VLC my receiver corrects "downgrade" to DTS, and it shows DTS on its display as normal.
With KODi on the other hand whenever i play a DTS-hd movie i got only stereo on my receiver.
The only way i can get 5.1 on my receiver in this situation is by enabling Dolby DIgital transcode on Kody settings. In this case i get dolby format on my receiver.
Cant i get normal DTS on my receiver from DTS-HD format? Is there any detrimental effect on converting the dts core to dolby?

Audio settings:
WASAPi output
2.0 number of channels
Enable passthrough
DTS capable receiver
Dolby capable receiver

I can post a debug log later if needed

Sorry for the delay
This is the debug log with dolby ac3 transcoding enabled:
http://paste.kodi.tv/inogicocex - My receiver shows Dolby in the display

This is the debug lof with dolby ac3 transcoding disabled:
http://paste.kodi.tv/tajabebowo - i get only stereo sound

Either case i cant get DTS format on my receiver.

In your debug log I can't see where Kodi has enumerated an S/PDIF device (could be I just couldn't see it).

In my setup (Win8) I have Intel HD Graphics and a Realtek S/PDIF output, so my default audio is HDMI and my passthrough device is WASAPI S/PDIF - which goes to my receiver.

My Kodi audio settings are:

Audio Decoder

Audio output device: DIRECTSOUND: HDMI - Panasonic -TV (Intel® Display Audio)
Number of channels: 2.0
Output configuration: Optimized
Volume control steps: 90
Maintain original volume on downmix: [Yes]
Stereo upmix: [No]
Resample quality: Medium
Threshold for pitch correction: 2
Keep audio device alive: 1 Minute
Send low volume noise: [Yes]

...

Audio Passthrough

Allow passthrough: [Yes]
Passthrough output device: WASAPI: SPDIF - Realtek Digital Output (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver: [Yes]
- Enable Dolby Digital (AC3) transcoding: [Yes]
DTS capable receiver: [Yes]

So I'd suggest checking that you can output normal Windows sounds to your receiver via S/PDIF, and then double-check your Kodi settings.

With DTS-HD audio media, I get DTS out to my receiver (it has a DTS light on it so I know it's not getting DTS transcoded to Dolby Digital). It gets the DTS core also when Dolby Digital transcoding is set to Off, as expected. (The reason I have DD transcoding set to on is for multichannel FLAC music).

Hope that helps.

So the reason you didnt se a S/PDIF device enumerated connection is because my windows output through HDMI connection. Then i have a audio extractor that receive HDMI as imput and output the audio as S/PDIF to my receiver. WIth this exact setup i can get DTS on my receiver when playing DTS-HD files with VLC and mpc-hc players. I tried your settings on kodi with no sucess.
