Im running Kodi V18 on a QNAP with a HDMI ouput which works beautifully when the audo is AC-3 or DTS.
However when the audio is MP2, MP3, AAC I have no audio and the logs show

CDVDAudioCodecFFmpeg::Open() Successful opened audio decoder aac
Creating audio stream (codec id: 86018, channels: 2, sample rate: 44100, no pass-through)
or
CDVDAudioCodecFFmpeg::Open() Successful opened audio decoder mp3float
Creating audio stream (codec id: 86018, channels: 2, sample rate: 44100, no pass-through)

Is there some way to encoding mp3/aac stereo audio as an AC3 stream?

I solved my problem by selecting a different Audio Output Device from the default after reading about the PulseAudio server
For my system:
   HDA Intel PCH, HDMI - AC3, DTS are fine, MP3, AAC etc no go.
   HDA Intel PCH, SEC EPSON PJ on HDMI  - All modes work fine.
   PulseAudio server - all modes work fine.
