So this issue of yours was happening by itself when you didn't press a key, but re-mapping a key magically fixed it. Yeah that makes sense

Something on your system MUST be firing the escape command, you seem to be reluctant to share a debug log which makes me wonder if anything dodgy is on the system, the only other alternative I can think of is that you have one of remote apps for Kodi installed on a smartphone that's firing the command into Kodi.
