Solved Thai Subitles do not display (only show squares)
#1
I have spent hours trying to debug this, changed the character set, checked encoding of the file. On Windows it plays great in VLC or with Jellyfin Webplayer but Kodi (on my NVIDIA Shield) just doesn't want to display Thai Characters. I am really at a loss. I found some older threads with people who face the same problem, but no real solution. Some said, I have to install another font, but I am completely unable to do so. It seems impossible to do within Kodi and even trying with the FX File Explorer I didn't managed to find the correct folder.
Even Chinese characters don't seem to work anymore - I knew it was working a few years before. Obviously, now I am running the latest version of Kodi from Google Playstore. Tested with a brand new installation too, but no dice.
I also tried other skins in hopes that they provide another font, but no luck either.

Tried installing a different font?

Apparently that is the only solution but I am unable to do that on Android / NVIDIA Shield. Spend hours trying to figure out how to copy an additional ttf file on the device. Kodi doesn't allow to install it from the GUI and it doesn't come bundled with it, nor are there any addons that install additional fonts.

Try this:

and follow the Android (Using Kodi’s internal file manager) method.

Thanks, I haven't found that guide yet. It looks more complete than the other reddit posts I found. Will give it a try.

EDIT: Thanks, It finally worked. Thanks a lot. Now I can display subtitles correctly.
