I think you need to be more specific, I have XBMC on my netbook and it runs flaweless, I can even run 720p (if it is low bitrate enough).

XBMC runs fine on current x86 netbooks (atom n230 anyway). You probably want to run one of the skins that are optimized for slow systems like xbox or ATV.

Runs just fine on my Dell Mini 9 with Ubuntu - any limitations are purely hardware-driven.
And I must say it gets quite a reaction from people on airplanes when they see me use it.
