Skin for 20" CRT TV?
#1
Recently my 37" lcd tv went out, and I've had to connect my xbox to a 20" old tube tv.
I have the latest stable xbmc T3CH release, and the default 2 skins it comes with. I have configured all the settings to reflect my current tv. I turned off widescreen, turned off 480p and 780p, recalibrated the video, but nothing is helping. The fonts are hardly readable, and my eyes are killing me. Even if i use the zoom feature in the skin settings, the font looks all weird and parts of the menus get cut. I have tried installing xtv, but still the same problems. I can't get these skins to be usable on this tv, but I know there has to be a way to fix this because avalaunch looks great.

Please help me out. Is there a skin for this kind of tv, or is there some kind of configuration I am missing, or perhaps a way to install some bigger fonts?

Thanks

Transparency! has an option for bigger fonts. It's what I put on my dad's old tv and it's easier to read than anything else I've seen: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=52125 the download link is in the first post along with screenshots.

just go to skin settings and under fonts, choose 4x3 default or the other 4x3 font. There may be other skins with larger fonts, but I know for sure Transparency! does.

if the fonts look weird, you may need to readjust the overscan settings. Also, did you turn widescreen off not only in XBMC but xbox's original dashboard as well?
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search and search the forum before posting.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I am at work right now, but I will try it when I get home.

I thought it might be that too, because the fonts tend to look a bit squashed, but I did turn off widescreen through the xboxdash and through avalaunch. Where are the "overscan" settings?

Thanks

You can increase the size of the fonts in the skin directory. Edit the "Font.xml" file and just increase each font size by a little. I increased each font size by 4 and this helped makes things more readable on my old 27" TV.

I use this for the tv in the Shop (I reworked it a bit to make it even more streamlined but the font size and layout is good for CRT televisions)

settings>appearance>screen>video calibration

xbmc wiki Wrote:It is essential that you properly adjust the pixel ratio. Failure to do so will cause video to look 'stretched' or 'squashed' on screen. To calibrate your pixel ratio, adjust it until the square displayed on screen is perfectly square. It is recommended that you do so using a ruler to ensure that the calibration is as accurate as possible.
