I agree with this. Or else you would end up with this in the main menu:

...
FILMER
FILMER
TV-SERIER
...

Filmer and Videoer are just as bad words, none of them generalize "filmer, tv-serier, småsnutter osv.", which is what we want. I find them equivalent in this respect, but Videoer pertain more the the media on which the movie is physically located (videokassett), which I don't find particularly suitable for movies/small films stored on a harddrive.

Anyway, we should have a discussion on this, but days/weeks(?) before a release is not a good time to perform such changes.

I haven't seen this. Is it like this for some configurations today? (then it should be fixed somehow)

@ventech:

I went through your patch, good work. I started from your strings.xml in ticket 7962 as of today (the one not commited yet).

http://trac.xbmc.org/attachment/ticket/7978/

An attempt to summarize my changes (a diff is available in the ticket):

Revert 'Filmer' ->'Videoer' - this needs more discussion

Fix some orddelingsfeil

decapitalize weather descriptions again, these look better in small letters because the strings are concatenated (which leads to terrible spacing issues.. ord delings feil), but that is more difficult to fix)

Revert some of your 'norwegian to english' changes. Bikubisk and Gaussisk are established words for Bicubic and Gaussian for example. Though I see your rationale here, as we both usually know the terms better in English here, but still, we should strive for a translation.

If you use Confluence skin, and activate Filmer and TV-Serier in the main menu (so you can go directly to the library), it would show it like that. So it looks a bit odd imo having two entries with Filmer, one going to the normal mode and the other going to the library mode.

I just installed rev. 25241, and there it's now Videoer like I think it should be.

...
VIDEOER
FILMER
TV-SERIER

A possible solution could be
...
FILMER
SPILLEFILMER
TV-SERIER
...

Again, the problem with Videor replacing Filmer is that is just as a bad word in that it does not generalize the subentities in any better way. Choosing Videoer on the main menu and Filmer on the submenu is nothing but an ad-hoc solution that does not touch the real problem: The lack of a proper general term (and I will refrain from commenting on any other languages, I don't know them that well).

I like that. Smile

Videofiler covers all types of video files - filmer/tv-serier/musikk-videoer, which is the section it takes you to when selecting it.
Filmer takes you directly to the movie library, while tv-serier takes you directly to tv-shows.

yes it does. do you even know norwegian, because 'videoer' mean EXACTLY what you're trying to say it does not mean, and exactly the same as in any other language. just please stop embarrassing yourself berland. jeez

video -en; -er, -ene
1. som kan sees
2. hjemmefilm

video -en; -er, -ene

2. hjemmefilm

And here is the entry for 'film' on ordnett.no

film -en, -er
2 rekke av levende bilder: ta opp film av noe / kjøre, vise en film; slike bilder som kunstverk: se film / spille inn en film / en god, dårlig, spennende film / utenlandske filmer; gå til filmen bli filmskuespiller

I really can't see how the dictionaries help us here.

Please refrain from attacking the person, keep this discussion on the subject.
