a very common dsl-router (in germany) is avm's fritz!box.
with some software modding (called freetz) it is possible to controll xbmc with a regular dect-phone:

a standard-service in freetz is the callmonitor.
this service is able to send messages to xbmc, dbox and some other frontends if someone calls you.
and... it is able to send http-codes (or push scripts):

listeners:
Code:
out:request ^ ^032 wget "http://192.168.1.20:8080/xbmcCmds/xbmcHttp?command=PlayNext"
out:request ^ ^031 wget "http://192.168.1.20:8080/xbmcCmds/xbmcHttp?command=Pause"

in my case this means, calling "032" plays the next track.
031 ... Pause

now i've got a remote-controll with reaches 300 meters by using standard hardware.

well, beside i hate the fritz!Box (what i really really do)

how in the world should some use his phone? I Mean that you did that is... very cool, but the only reason to do that i get in mind is: because you can ;D

dont get me wrong, i'm very impressed by that archivment, but i think (for me) its hard to remember all the numbercodes for every action in xbmc... or have you planned to use this just for skipping tacks?

yes, it is mainly for skipping tracks.

i have connected a fm-transmitter to my xbmc.
so i can hear the music everywhere in the house with any radio.
and i have seperate speakers in the garden.

but no remote was working stable enough on this distance.
wlan was the best i could use (with a pda), but the pda lost the signal too often.
when it worked with the pda, it worked great (and comfortable).
but most time i just want to listen to last.fm or i use the party-mode.

so now (well, to be exact, "in summer") i can set the box to party-mode or last.fm and relax in my hammock, skipping tracks with my DECT-phone...

Cool

p.s.:
the code to "skip" is safed in the phonebook.
