Hi,
I've been noticing poor performance since I upgraded one of my atv's to 3.0 firmware (compared to the other aTV I have).
I have restored it to 2.2, launcher 3.11 & a current nightly xbmc build, but want to update the ir updates & any others which can be of use.
Does anyone have a script which installs the 2.4 firmware update along with the IR & other patches?
All the scripts I see are outdated & the urls don't work, so they don't work.
Any help is much appreciated.

firmware 2.4 download has been removed by apple so your only option is bittorrent

Either download the 2.4 fw and use the OsDowngrade script or restore it to your Recovery partition, which will mean that all future restores will result in 2.4 FW default.

Hi & thanks for the reply.
I have the 2.4 fw already, but I want to downgrade to 2.4 but ensure I have the other fw upgrades inc like for IR & efi etc.
Any further suggestions on how to script this?

Not sure if I understand but if you have the 2.4 you can trigger a manual upgrade creating a folder called Updates in frontrow volume and copy the firmware and the file osupdate onto it
then chmod +x osupdate and finally sudo ./osupdate will apply the 2.4
As far as I know there is no easy way to take pieces of the 3.x updates and apply on older versions though you could try to mount the DMG in os x and look for any specific parts you like

I see lots of threads about downgrading or upgrading the atv OS but I haven't been able to discover WHY people are doing this.
Is there an OS that is considered 'best' (I know, loaded word - hence the quotes) for running XBMC? I don't do anything with the atv itself, I'm only interested in running XBMC with the broadcom card.
If there's a post that runs down pros/cons of different os's please point me in that direction, my searches haven't revealed anything.
thanks.

The only reason to downgrade is because some plug in only work in older versions
Frankly I think the 3.x is better than 2.x for the apple functionality itself so if you happen to use any of the itunes bit you stay on the latest otherwise choose an old one based on your plug in requirements
XBMC is not a factor in this process other finder plug ins are

Linux is the best. It allows you freedom to do whatever you like. the ATV platform is a good platform for XBMC and is very much supported. I've been playing around with apple OS for a few days now, and what they've left in-tact of their hacked up variant of linux is sad. Just switch to linux and get the real thing.
