Slow opening of folders
#1
Hello,

I installed XBMC SVN 30985 and when I open for instance the videos it takes about 4 seconds to show all the folders/files inside.

I have another version (XBMC Trunk r30898) and this doesn't happen.

What could be the delay?

PS: I installed a clean XBMC SVN 30985 and doesn't solve the problem.
I run the executables as portable.

Thanks in advance

Solved: Recent versions doesn't have this problem

I am having the same issue, with the DsPlayer build 31004 (which used trunk 30966)

This is very strange. I installed on a second PC and am not having the same problem. On the first PC, it's taking about 5 seconds to navigate from one folder level to another. When I navigate to TV Shows or Movies in library mode, there is no delay. It's only a problem navigating through folders. Here are some snippets from the XBMC.log. The folders are on local hard drives.

I was playing around with the latest last night and I have a quad core cpu and it was running the same.

FWIW, I recently switched to Panda Cloud Antivirus and it slowed my computer right down for directory browsing and deleting files. Temporarily turn off your A/V to see if it makes any difference. My 2 cents! Big Grin

I skipped all builds after 30362 and only just last night went to 31009 with no problems at all. Perhaps a newer build?

The issue doesn't make sense. I tried a clean install, but it didn't make a difference. I also installed the same version on two other machines that are nearly identical and neither one had the problem. The only difference with this machine is that is hooked up to a HDTV, uses a IR remote, and has Bluetooth devices connected. I tried disconnecting the IR and Bluetooth, but it didn't help. I am at a loss. I put back my older version, and it can navigate folders fine.

I'll try again the next time there is a new DSPlayer build. Dealing with open source can be so frustrating at times. These new builds fix a few issues for me, like being able to use DSPlayer to play my Sony Handycam 60fps files, but they've also broken some things too.

Any ideaHuhHuhHuhHuh?

I am at a complete lost as why this is happening, as I installed DsPlayer build 31004 (which used trunk 30966) on three different machines, and only have the issue on one of them. Perhaps if we could determine a common element between our setups we could narrow the issue down.

On my three PC setups, two of them have identical motherboards, Asus M2N68VM (one of these is the one having the problem). I am using a Galaxy GeForce 9500GT on the one that is having the problem (the same card is in one of the others that is not having the problem, the different machine from the one with the N2N68VM). All three PC's are running Windows 7 32bit. So it shouldn't be the motherboard, video card, or Windows that is the problem.

I've tried the following:
- Install over the existing XBMC
- Clean install of XBMC. Even with no sources set up, selecting Video, Files, would give a 5 second delay before the screen would show up, so I know the issue is not my database.
- The machine having the issue has three SATA hard drives, a WD 1TB (w. 2 partitions), a Samsung 1.5TB, and a WD 2TB all with one partition each. There is also an external WD 1TB My book.
- The one having problems is the only one with BlueTooth enabled. I have a Logitech Keyboard, and a Rocketfish mouse that connect via BlueTooth, but the problem has even when the BlueTooth devices are off (though the driver is still installed).
- The one having problems also has a Soundgraph iMon IR remote. However, I tried removing the remote from the USB and closing out the software, but this made no difference.

As I mentioned in the previous post, there is no delay when selecting "TV Shows" or "Movies" off the main menu, just when I browse folders for Videos, Pictures or Music.

Here's a brief run down of the configuration of each machine:

PC01 (the one having the issue)
ASUS M2N68VM, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+, 2GB DDR2, WD 1TB Green SATA, WD 2TB Green SATA, Samsung 1.5TB SATA, NEC ND-3520A IDE DVDRW, Galaxy GeForce 9500GT 1GB PCI-E (DVI out to Vizio VF550M HDMI), on-board sound (Optical Out), ethernet, Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, AZIO Bluetooth adapter, Soundgraph iMon USB/IR dongle

PC04 (no issues)
ASUS M2N-E, AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 2GB DDR2, WD 640GB SATA, WD 750GB SATA, 2 WD 1TB SATA, WD 500GB SATA, Samsung DVRW SATA, NEC ND-3550A IDE DVDRW, Galaxy GeForce 9500GT (DVI out to ASUS V236H), SB X-Fi (analog out), Hauppauge WinTV-1250 HVR, onboard ethernet, Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit

PC05
ASUS M2N68VM, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e, 2GB DDR2, 2 WD 320GB SATA, VIA SATA PCI card, LG BluRay SATA, Galaxy GeForce 210 512MB (DVI out to HDMI on ASUS V236H), on board sound (optical out), Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

As you can see PC01 is very similar to PC05, and PC05 works fine. Does your configuration match anything on PC01?

Hello relayer35,

My setup is different from yours (Win 7 64bits, geforce 8600GTS....).

My last fresh installation was r31139 and slow again (the mouse doesn't even move when opening the folders...).

Only r30898 that I have installed on other path (portable) opens folders fast.

What I really find strange is that only you and me seems to have this problem.

Can some XBMC expert help these two poor guys that have slow navigation in their systems? Oo

Thanks

No, it's not just you.

I've experienced the same thing, but *only* with a fresh build of r31122, not beforehand.

Have just noticed there's a new nightly 31139, which I'll give a crack tonight and
see if this is still occurring on my box (I see that it is on yours @GJCD).

I'm running windows 7 64, if that makes any difference.

Long shot for you guys probably, but could the issue have anything to do with a spin down/start up of drives issue as a result of power-saving management settings. I had a similar problem which was rectified, but only by changing the settings to never spin down the disks. Worth a look?

steelman might be right take a look in your Power Options, W7 has a nasty habit to spin down the disks which can create performance issues, knowing that a laptop hdd is already inferior to a dekstop one.

Some screen-shots that could help perhaps...

Nevertheless the latest version is available @ http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/win32/

Unfortunately, that is not it. I had already set the hard drives to never turn off. Seemed like a long shot anyway, as the delay happens every folder jump. I would think if the issue was due to hard drives turning off, then the problem would only occur when the machine has idled for the set amount of time.
