I wanted to know what software o the members use for safety on their HTPC?
and while ur at it could u also mention what u use on ur primary PC?

By security, you mean firewall and antivirus?

For Antivirus, I use Microsoft Security Essentials on all my computers (including my HTPC)

It uses very little resources and has a great scanning engine.

And I just use Windows Firewall, there's no need for anything else really.

I agree, treat it like any other PC on your network. Weigh the value of the data on the system against the pain of securing it, and find the sweet spot. For me, it's just a router with IP masking. Of course I'm running Linux with only one service open to the network - ssh with key authentication. If you're running something with more security holes (or heaven forbid IE or Flash!) then a firewall of some type provides good protection from the majority of script kiddies out there.
