OK I'm running xbmc on ubuntu 10.04

I tried this:

Install from git: RTMPDump v2.4

git clone git://git.ffmpeg.org/rtmpdump
(IF error install git:
sudo apt-get install git)

cd rtmpdump
make
sudo make install

If you get errors try this first:
sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install libssl-dev

sudo apt-get install openSSL

Hi, neat work on the plug in. Thanks for all the work in this plug in. I like the idea but I'm not having any luck getting it to work. I tried all the suggestions in this thread but no luck....still chasing my tail...

You need to update your rtmp. Please do a search of the site, there are multiple versions there depending on your OS.

That's the latest version they have for Ubuntu. I'll try to find he source code and see if I can build it myself the 2.4.
The funny part was that I never had the package to begin with when Installed the addon initially. Does its installation check for rtmpdump?

So, I was able to build rtmpdump 2.4 from source and installed it. I still get the same error. I notice the system still has a file called "librtmp0" which is still version 2.3-2
I'm guessing this is the file I need to update. Any ideas on how to do it?

Well, here I am again with these plugs not working, and nothing in this thread fixing it. Anyone have any idea of a definitive fix for this?

I notice Windows people being able to just switch out a DLL file...any similar fix for Ubuntu Lucid?

To summarize...

svn co svn://svn.mplayerhq.hu/rtmpdump/trunk rtmpdump (which downloaded 2.3 v569)
cd rtmpdump
make VERSION="v2.3\ r569"
sudo make install

(I don't really know what all I'm doing here...just kinda finding different spells and casting them to see if it fixes things, and that's the spell I found.)

UPDATE2:

Actually, scratch that. The Daily Show plugin played half of the latest episode (Jason Bateman), then crashed XBMC. It won't play any other streams, but oddly enough will still play that one stream. Reinstalling and rebooting the computer didn't fix it.

I tried rtmpdump-svn from the Arch AUR. I did not get handshake errors but still it didn't play. When I reinstalled rtmpdump 2.4 I got the handshake errors again.

Does one actually need to do something with rtmpdump?

I had patched rtmp and it fixed my issues with some channels in FreeCable plugin. I then installed this and it worked - never tried it before to know if I even needed the updated librtmp, but then it stopped worked (along with Colbert) a few days back.

Does anyone have this working?

I think the sites have changed I will look into it this weekend.

EDIT: looks like colbert at least has started using rtmpe:// blurg
