how to install this skin? total nub
#1
hi,
so i downloaded the latest svn version of xbmc here: http://xbmcsvn.com/
i tried to install the aeon skin, which i got from here: http://github.com/andyblac/aeon
i do not, however, have a skin folder. simply creating one does not work. i figured the guide i used is not up to date anymore and that they changed sth and that the skins now go into a new folder.
i searched the web and this forum, but my head hurts from all this code reading and so on.
does anyone have a simple solution for me? i am totally new to xbmc.
thanks in advance.

AndyBlacs Aeon (ShowMix) isn´t dharma compatible.
If you have no clue about XBMC you can try this.

nonetheless, it would be nice to read the stickies before posting basic questions, would give us devs more time to work on the skin instead of wasting time by answering questions you could answer yourself after a bit of reading...

Dont download from XBMCSVN. They are unsupported builds.

Make sure you get them from here. You'll also find all the right answers you need for your installation somewhere. Have a good read of the XBMC Wiki and all will be revealed! Smile

I have used XBMCSVN.com´s builds most of the time, wouldn´t know what speaks against them. Some days ago there wasn´t even an official version on which this skin ran correctly... (now the dharma beta is probably the one you should go for)

thanks for your quick replies. i am very grateful for that.
now i installed the dharma beta like you said and downloaded the alaska skin (the aeon65 did not work for me - runtime error). does not look exactly like i imagined but i does definitely look a lot better.
i got one more problem so far: after running the imdb scrapper i only get covers displayed for like 3 out of 10 movies. for the rest i have to click and add them manually. is there anything i can improve in the settings?

i always used ember media manager, perhaps the TMDb scraper does work for you better.. Did you install XBMC over the old one? then that´s the reason for your runtime error. install this into a clean directory, then it should work

you installed it in a completely clean directory?
Don´t know if the XBMC deinstallation process also deletes the old skins....if not, then that´s the reason. (you can also look into the addon folder, there may not be the old skin.aeon folder, only skin.aeon65)

New user here, and I can also reproduce the error that matth is getting in reference to a runtime error from "XBMC-Aeon65Edition-Rev33349-dx.exe" linked by Phil65.

After a few hours of trouble shooting, and reading every reference of runtime errors and Windows 7 from Google, I checked the log (Rolleyes) and found a lovely line:
ERROR: Default skin 'skin.Aeon65' not found! Terminating..

I tried copying Areo65 from program files into the addons folder in the roaming directory for XBMC, and nothing changed.

Full pastebin here:
http://pastebin.com/u3k69u0c

EDIT: I'll just go back to using a nightly build and the Areo repo, and doing setting up manually, but I thought I'd let you know that I could reproduce the error.

as i already wrote, i also got that error, and it was because i also had my old folder skin.aeon in the addon folder. seems to confuse xbmc. after removing the old one, it worked.

Good to know. Using the Dharma-beta1 and a git copy of Aeon is working for me now.
Just trying to get my head around getting the metadata and images/banners for my files. Confused

Hi Phil,

I have just tried a clean install from your link and I am also getting the runtime error. There is no skin.aeon in the addon folder, just skin.aeon65.

I performed a clean install using the provided XBMC-Aeon65 Edition installer and ran into the same issue (runtime error).

I checked the xbmc log file and saw the same error about not being able to find skin.aeon65. I fixed it pretty quickly by going into the guisettings.xml and changed the <lookandfeel> skin from skin.aeon65 to skin.confluence, saved the file and opened XBMC.

It opened with confluence and then from within I changed it to Aeon65. This worked for me. When I closed and reopened XBMC it opened with Aeon65, no trouble.

that´s because of case sensivity, my mistake, sorry. will probably make a new one when I find some time.

I would like to fix this but I do not know how to go about editing the xml file from Windows as it obviously doesn't recognize the linux on it.

Is there a way I can do it from Windows?
