New to XBMC (Live)
#1
Hi,

Around a week ago I heard of XBMC from my collaborator.
(as I've already googled it, but wasn't sure of it).

... there is my "story of me" in short.

Okay, so now I've been testing and installing and reading from forums (through google) of XBMC.

For first I'd like to inform you all that I'm not a linux specialist ( 'T_T) so don't take any of my words as "I know everything", lol. Also I would like to apologize for my bad english.

Okay, to the business.

My system:
Thermaltake DH202 (with the touch screen)
AMD Phenome II 955 Black Edition
2x 2GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 (Non-ecc, Unbuffered)
Western Digital HDD 1TB (Green edition)
Asus Crosshair IV Formula (bios, as it was from the box)
ATI HD5770 (I know... XBMC has problem with ATI; or the other way around)
Corsair 700W power supply.

What I've done so far..:

First I installed Ubuntu 10.4 and with it XBMC.
::: PROBLEMS :::
- When shutdown XBMC, it messes up the desktop
(tried new drivers from ATI... no go, actually got worse)
- When playing video with "automatic" video (rendering?) setup, the video blurs basic colors from white to black without any "real" -image; problem could be with ati (or it is)... if change settings to "Software" then it works perfect.
- there were some other problems also but I just forgot as I was writing Tongue lol

Then tried the live version. (stable released version ? )
Then the 2nd unstable release
::: PROBLEMS :::
- amm... wouldn't go to GUI (goes straight to terminal?). Stop here.

Then the 1st unstable release
- Audio wont come out through HDMI (ATI HD5770)
- Network works until few OS reboots or until user tries to fix workgroup
(by the way... after in anycase if restart XBMC is requested and user accept the system steps down to some sort of linux GUI (black desktop with X as cursor) and wont move any further (waited 40min) and after system reboot/shutdown ends up giving error message (1st case: "Error not connected to network", as trying to open network directory) && (2nd case: "Error2: ... something about not being able to setup network", as tring to open network directory).
- as here also I forgot some cases as I was writing... lol

so..
a) if someones has a solutions for my problems, it would be appreciated if you could share.

b) taking these as a note ("todo") on next release. would be super! Smile

Thank you for your time and appreciate for any help also

Best Regards
Henry
