None (and I do mean none) are as good for Linux as the HP ones off ebay:

Plug and Play in XBMC Live.

Yes, plus it has IR blasting capability. I use mine with Logitech Harmonies with great success.

You can also get the philips branded version (The HP one is actually made by philips). I agree it is the best USB IR receiver. There is a site you can get them from for pretty cheap, it is where I got mine. I'll see if I can dig up the link.

Here ya go:

I have a usbuirt but found that the philips was plug and play with xbmc live so replaced mine. The philips/HP receiver has a really long USB cable if needed and the receiver picks up signals very well.

If you want to have a dedicated remote specifically for just controlling xbmc, the white xbox360 universal media remote works great and has a really nice layout. Plus it only costs about $20 and is backlit.

This one:

I have all the keymaps and setup for using it with xbmc live if anyone wants it.

I forgot to mention, a few people talking about these remotes. Its rf so doesnt need line of sight. Takes abit of work to get all the buttons working but theres a thread in here with details.

I know it's a little too late (13 years), but did it work?

IR is so 13 years ago

try out bluetooth and keep your equipment in a cabinet - at least it worked great on libreelec last time i tried it

Bluetooth uses more battery and is unnecessary when television requires line of sight and dosnt need the over head of a complicated protocol to begin with. Plus the selection of Bluetooth remotes is objectively poorer than IR.
