Best HTPC case for Micro ATX
#1
I want to get a new computer case. I currently have this onehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811154087 and it works fine. Its a bit loud and to be truthful its pretty damn ugly. So This is where you guys come in. What is your favorite case? I don't want to spend more than 100 bucks but may spend more for the perfect case. I want something that will fit in nicely with my other equipment. Ideally it should look like a stereo receiver. I only need to fit the motherboard, and my hard drive since I use onboard sound and video.

I'm using an eBay case that I love. It's a Silverstone LC02 rip off.

It can take a full ATX board, mATX and ITX.

The case is about $60 with a slim DVD drive, 220w power supply and free shipping. Add another $40 for a Scythe Big Shuriken cooler and your golden. The scythe is the biggest cooler you can fit at 58mm tall with fan and heatsink.

Here it is fully loaded. I intend to swap out the SATA drive for an SSD at some point.

Here's where you can find it

That looks like a pretty sweet deal. Did you purchase from this seller? I just want to make sure I can trust this. I've been burned before from ebay.

I did. He's awesome. It was the best shipping job I've seen, the case has the best power button I've ever felt, and the seller is very helpful. I had originally won an auction for the case without the drive. I made a mistake, but he was very helpful in getting me what I wanted in the DVD drive.

Also, it's $49 now with dvd drive and shipping. One of the [H] members got him to extend the $49 dollar price. If you want it, nows the time.

What platform are you running with your setup (win or linux)? Would that display even work in linux?

I like the Silverstone case that Poofyhairguy posted. I'm also looking into this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AZI...PDKIKX0DER which is only 35 bucks more than what I was planning on spending. Its not much different than the GD05B but I like the design a bit more.

Well at the moment this system has to double as my PC aswell, due to lack of funds and room to have a seperate one! So i'm running Ubuntu 10.10 (64-bit) and XBMC Dharma Beta 4. I can report that the VFD works great in Linux with LCDproc, and the included remote works fine with LIRC and XBMC.

As soon as I have a seperate machine to use as my PC, I want to switch to XBMC Live.

I'm thinking I might get the Silverstone case here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036WT...PDKIKX0DER

and a vcd display here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B8Y...PDKIKX0DER

Does anyone know if this display works in Linux, and if so how do I set it up?

I'm currently using a mce remote with buttons mapped to my harmony. Will it recognize the mce signals or will I have to reconfigure lirc?

Looking at it it seems to get that device to work you are gonna have to jump through some LIRC hoops. You also will find getting the screen working to be the opposite of plug and play as well. Looks like a ton of nerdy command-line Linux fun to get it to work, which is either good or bad depending on your point of view.

I don't mind the nerdy command line stuff at all. I found this thread which may help. http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=63129

I'm just hoping it still works for Ubuntu 10.4 and Dharma RC1.
