User TEST appeal - Asrock ION XBMCLive dharma RC2
#1
Exclamation
Im begging all users with asrock IONS 330 to test this. All other IOS can test this as well.

Software: XBMCLive official RC2 installed to HDD. NO DTS OR AC3 capable receiver here.

If anyone has a asrock ION 330 connected via HDMI with HDMI sound, Im appealing to asrock ION users to test a file.
file can be downloaded here http://www.mediafire.com/?gwi64j452v6ve its a mpg4 with mp3 @ 32000hz

I created a bugreport http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/10828 please feel free to add debug logs there.

essentially any mpg4 file with mp3 sound with less then 48000HZ the audio wont play.

I would apprecciate all reports from users, testing the file against their setups.

I dont have a amp or a/v receiver so its HDMI like this http://trac.xbmc.org/attachment/ticket/1...hot000.png

Connections:
Asrock ION 330 HDMI ==> HDMI Samsung LE32558 ==> 3.5 stereo jack cable with red/with RCA plugs to speaker system.

Sound fails both at TV and on audio system, tried unpluging any audio out from TV to Speakers.

Code:
[b]XBMC Settings:[/b]
Audio output: HDMI
Speaker Configuration: 2.1/2.0
Boost volume level on downmix: enabled also tried Disabled
- Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver: disabled ([b]not supported by audio system[/b])
- DTS capable receiver: disabled ([b]not supported by audio system[/b])
Audio output device: hdmi
Passthrough output device: hdmi
Also Optical and spdif is not an option.

thanks in advance for testing this and reporting here.

HDMI Specs There is no limitation on HDMI that would prevent this.

Temporary fix Reconverted all video/audio files that are problematic.

VLC and MPlayer have no issus with this type of file

Thx for testing.

BUT it has to be XBMCLive official RC2 intall and no DTS OR AC3 capable receiver here.... only 2.1 audio and no 5.1

Ill Try to disable Boost volume level on downmix and see.

I guess at least I know your stuff works.

thx again.

anyone else pls.

so. to be sure that you are using passthrough - during playback can you adjust the volume in xbmc or not ?

I did some testing with the XBMCLive RC2 cd. After it was done booting i went to Videos, added the source to the testfile and then started playing it. There was really no sound at that point but after unmuting some devices in the Audiomixer i had working sound.

Settings in Audiomixer that made the sound work:
'Master',0 unmuted 100%
'Front',0 muted 00%
'Center',0 muted 00%
'Line',0 muted 00%
'IEC958',0 unmuted
'IEC958',1 unmuted
'PCM',0 100%
'LFE',0 muted 00%
'IEC958 Default PCM',0 unmuted
'Surround',0 muted 00%
'Beep',0 muted 00%
'Mic',0 muted 00%

After that i went to the audiosettings they were configured like this (defaults):
Audio output: HDMI
Speaker Configuration: 2.0
Boost volume level on downmix: enabled
- Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver: enabled
- DTS capable receiver: enabled
Audio output device: custom (plug:both)
Passthrough output device: hdmi

I changed them to the same values that i used with the openelec version and the sound still worked (also tested with 2.0 and 2.1).

I noticed that my A/V Receiver displays PCM sound while playing your testfile. Maybe your amp doesn't work with PCM?

that's why you didn't use passthrough, you used usual PCM/LPCM mode through hdmi

what does your a/v receiver indicate while playing any dts/ac3 file ? does you receiver support mp3/aac decoding ?

even is it possible ?

if i play videos with dts or ac3 sound then the a/v receiver will display that those formats are used and i won't be able to change the volume in xbmc.

i didn't find any info about the receiver supporting mp3 decoding. i try to enable mp3 passthrough to see if it changes anything (is mp3 passthrough enabled by default or do i have to change some settings?)

you should check guisettings.xml - set true for your formats - mp1/2/3/aac - is your receiver supports them

http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=658087&postcount=8

please try with mp1/2/3/aac@48000 file , because 44100 and less doesn't support yet in passthrough xbmc

yes, it was passthrough mode - xbmc has sent to your receiver compressed audio data , your receive decoded it itself

        <passthroughmp1>true</passthroughmp1>
        <passthroughmp2>true</passthroughmp2>
        <passthroughmp3>true</passthroughmp3>
    </audiooutput>

when i play videos with aac or mp3 audio then the hdmi light of my a/v receiver flashes a few times and goes to the Surround-Sound-Icon when playing mp3 and the Dolby-Digital-Icon when playing aac but i can't hear any sound both times (i guess my receiver doesn't support aac/mp3 passthrough).
