[Windows XP] Problem with movie playback in Dharma
#1
I recently setup dharma after using the previous version of XBMC for quite a while with no issues. Now, it seems a few of my movies (10 or so out of ~95) won't play. I've ripped them all the same way, using the same piece of software (Magic DVD Ripper). Looking at the logs, it seems xbmc thinks these movies are MP3 files. VLC plays the movies fine. Here is the portion of the log which brought me to that conclusion:

==============
When I play the movie, I just see the cover art in a small box on the bottom left, and some crazy noises.

Is anyone else seeing this issue? My cousin, who also used 9.x for some time switched to dharma and is seeing the same problem with some of his movies. I'v also noticed the media info for these movies, instead of showing 5.1, 480, etc just shows "1.0" or "2.0" - likely because it thinks they are audio files.

Why is this happening? Is there anything I can do other than re-rip the movies using another application (which I don't feel I should have to do)?

Thanks for any help,

-Ron

You can try remuxing the files with avidemux or ffmpeg.

I opened and re-saved this movie using avidmux and that seemed to work. Thanks for the help! It's an extra step if it happens in the future, but at least I can use dharma. Any idea why the videos are fine in xbmc 9.x and VLC but not xbmc 10?

I tried re-ripping to mpeg a movie I had trouble with, and I still had trouble. I wanted to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Then I ripped it as an .iso using DVD Fab 6 and that played fine in 10. So, going forward I guess I'll do that.

However, it looks like about 30-40% of my movies are affected, so this is not really a solution so to speak. It just helps future movies. I'd really rather not spend 3 hours re-ripping movies I already ripped so they work in 10. I put a button on my universal remote to start XBMC 9 (which I backed up before upgrading to 10) for when I want to watch a problem movie, until a real fix is found - if ever. Sad

Yeah - I keep trying to come up with good solutions to fix my library as well, thought I had a good thing going with original mpeg2 - they seemed to play everywhere and able to keep the 5.1 surround. I've started going to vob files, but those aren't yet supported on ATV2 - back to the old xbox for now I suppose; Don't really feel like re-recording the 40 movies I have as MPEG, and I've not had success using avidemux either.... Let me know if you come up with anything (some kind of setting or something had to change somewhere from 9 - 10.... )

It looks like the latest nightly build (xbmc-r8c3a49b-master) no longer has this issue. I upgraded a few minutes ago and spot-checked 4-5 of the movies that had issues and they all worked perfectly! Thanks to the developers! Smile

Just downloaded the nightly as well - and my videos are also working!!!!! It still displays the "mp1", "mp2", or "mp3" under the image in library mode instead of "MPEG2" "Dolby Digital" - which scared me at first - but I am not going to complain about that!

This is awesome.... once the same update is made to the ios version of xbmc, I will have an atv2 with xbmc in every room of my house!

Thanks for the post, I had almost given up hope
