I didn't run mediainfo....I'm on mac right now and not even sure if they have it. But I did use the included nfo file so I assume this is accurate. I also have determined that it can't just be the 1080p because I went on to test more (this is not scientific here cause I don't have data for the files) but I used a smaller 720p (smaller overall size) and it stuttered. Then played a bigger 720p file and it played perfectly. All on the same network and source computer. So it appears to be specific to the encoding done. But here's the nfo for the file that gave me a buffer problem. Refer to my previous posts in this thread for more info on this file.

I thought I would share some input for debugging.

I am watching inception

here is the media info of the movie

http://pastie.org/pastes/1486099

playback is smooth, and better than expected for a large 12gig file over SMB using 100mb wired, connected to a NAS.

there was a few buffering problems, but its happened only 2 times in the first 10 mins of the movie..The movie was very watchable.

Pirates of the Caribbean world at war, buffered every 50-60 seconds. << due to scanning of database

http://pastie.org/pastes/1486126

Disney's Cars 1080P Crashes after 30 seconds of starting the movie. But plays fine on Windows XBMC, and Mac XMBC

Xavieryz,
Thanks for your input!!! If we all keep this stuff coming we'll have this all worked out in no time. I see they have mediainfo for mac so I will work on getting that going too so we can keep everything unified. Thanks again.

Cars does have 11 reference frames. Wondering if that could be an issue due to the 256MB RAM in the ATV2. The more ref frames you have, the more RAM you need. Can you check memory usage on ATV in System Info?

HDClown Wrote:Consideirng the fact that the A4 chip can decode 1080p, there is no reason it can't output 1080p. Apple has this arbitrarily locked down in their design.

It has to coexist with many other functions. AirPlay at 1080p would be hard at this point.

There are plenty of good 1080p local players around. If 1080p is a priority then you should think twice. I doubt Apple is doing anything arbitrary. The player is evolving. It wasn't signed to b an mkv Blu-ray rip player.

I installed it, but what does it do, and how to I activate it?

I am not familiar with SSH, I can only copy and paste commands found in how-to articles

I played the cars file and then went to system info while it was playing in the background, I had 64megs free when it crashed

If you are looking for reference files, I recommend using this one here:

http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/index.php/download/

This is a Cartoon movie made in Blender.
Files are available in different formats and sizes.

Anyone should use this to test 1080p playback issues.

I tested a slew of files today and all of them worked without any issue.

Here's all my mediainfo on tested files: http://pastebin.com/b8g14Qj3

Here's my post with more specifics: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=91630
