[AppleTV2] Aeon on ATV2?

Here's the instructions for installing skins for us noobs. Full credit to OwNeD162

Ok, here is a quick run through on how to install any skin that is Dharma compatible on the ATV2
Download the skin you want (it will be a .zip file) - the Aeon65 skin is here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=76839
Using a SSH client (I use WinSCP on Windows cause you can visually drag and drop files) login via SSH to your ATV2 (Username is root, password is alpine)
Once logged in, navigate to the /private/var/mobile folder
Drag and drop your .zip file here and wait for it to transfer
Once transfered, you can quit the SSH client
On XBMC go to the Settings > Appearance area.
Click on Skin (so that it opens a list of installed skins)
In that window there should be a "Get More" button, click on that.
This should take you to another list of the skins
Click 'Menu' on your ATV2 remote and it will load another list, with one of the options being 'Install from ZIP file', click on 'Install from zip file'
Click on 'Home Folder'
You should see your skin.zip in this list, click on it and it will start installing (it may look like it's doing nothing because you can continue to use the device as normal whilst it works)
Once it has finished installing it will ask you if you wish to switch to your newly installed skin, click 'yes'
That should be it, it should switch over and you will be good to go

I tried this and managed to install Aeon65 but it was quite slow and have subsequently changed back to redux. I prefer the look of Aeon but the speed of redux :-)

Thanks for posting that bigmal, only just got back to the forum this morning (sorry owen-b).

Yer, I ended up changing back to Alaska2 cause it runs a bit quicker. But that method will work with installing any Dharma skin you feel like Smile!

Cheers,
Mitchell.

The above directions also worked for me. I love the look and feel of Aeon, but it's just too slow on the AppleTV 2. I'm also finding a good balance of style and performance with the Alaska Revisited skin.

I've followed these instructions to the letter, all goes well until I click on "install from zip file", at which point the installation starts but is followed very soon after by a pop up notification saying that it has failed, any suggestions?

erm, sorry for being a total n00b, but i have no idea which file to download, i can see the folder on the ATV2 where i need to place the Aeon65 zip but i don't understand where the zip is, i looked at http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=76839 but that didn't help me i have no idea what git is and which file to download, can anyone shed some light on this for me please, pretty please with sugar on top Smile Oo

EDIT:
ok so the n00b figured it out, well kinda i thought this might be it and tried it

downloaded the file from https://github.com/pix/aeon was about 150Mb and all works now, yes it is slow but it looks sooooooo good, i'm gonna stick with it Smile

Hey, sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
Sounds like you're doing everything right, so my only suggestion would be to redownload the .zip as it may have corrupted / not downloaded properly.
Other than that you can also try reinstalling XBMC just incase something went wrong there as well.
If you're still having issues let us know and we'll see if we can work it out for you Smile

Glad to hear you worked it out Big Grin!
Hopefully speed will improve when ATV2 becomes a bit more of a priority for some of the skin developers Smile

Would everyone agree this is still the best AEON Skin for ATV2?

I'm not sure, I haven't tried Aeon Nox, I might give that a go tonight.

Ilia has been kind enough to chuck up a version of Aeon MQ2 for us on another thread, but I'm yet to try that out as well - http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=49567&page=5
