How do I know if Crystal chip is working
#16
I searched the forum with 'crystal hd osx' every single return was to do with ATV.

I promise I am not moaning here, but the instructions on your link are obviously aimed at professionals, I tried the first line of code and was told by terminal that there was no such file or directory.

Thou must be a professional to install open source drivers for hardware on operating systems not supported by the hardware manufacturer. Well... not a professional per se, but at least able to follow some instructions and not be afraid. Smile

You're not installing a "consumer" piece of hardware that comes with an install CD. You bought an OEM product made to be pre-installed in laptops/nettops. In my opinion that's part of the fun.

What the hell is a kext ?

How does a guy with 900 posts in 2 years not know what a kext is?

Sorry, couldn't resist. Big Grin

Please don't search out my own history of retarded questions...

Also - welcome back Davilla. Nice to see you on the ATV1 boards after the nuclear explosion that was ATV2 XBMC!

Thanks Mr Devilla

My search skills are weak.

Not in front of the mac right now but do you think I could expect a little quieter running with the drivers installed? XBMC runs at around 40% of CPU according to monitor even when doing nothing and the fan whines like me. I am thinking of getting another fan but ebay wants forty quid.

Oh my god, I totally spooged my mini!

Does anyone have a 2005-2007 mini with four usb ports that can have a quick peek inside for me?

I tried to unplug the fan but instead pulled the wires out, there are three wires all black! I need to know the order they go back in, i.e. how they leave the fan assembly and go in the main board.

Any help on this very much appreciated I can find nothing on the google there! You don't need to take things off or anything!

Have you taken a look at ifixit.com? They usually have some of the best teardown/repair help.

I think this ought to get you back up and running. Good luck!

sadly what I need to know is what order the three black cables of the fan go into the plug. ifixit it only shows how to replace with a new assembly.

Its of no consequence as I have ordered a new fan now.

Here is xbmc log
http://pastebin.com/dE544Jpt

And here is a snippet from console when doing the terminal thing as you can see I tried twice but lets face it I don't know what I am doing

Something popped up from the finder telling me some ktext had not successfully loaded and to try reinstalling, sadly I press return just as it popped up.

Basically I am getting permission denied at the mv bits, I have no idea how to get past this? Around the web it says the first parts of sudu chow -r should have given me the permissions and certainly these parts seem to 'install' just fine.

Damn I wish this was easier.

Sigh and now activity monitor tells me XBMC is running at between 86-100% cpu when sitting idle.
