I am having issues with mkv's with 25mbps and really high -50k MAX bitrates (average 25k) on my xbox 360, will atv2 + xbmc play it? 1080p, DTS audio.
How would I hook it up? do I need xbmc installed on the media center server (where all movies/files are)?

The ATV2 is based on portable hardware, it hasn't got a tripple core 3.2ghz CPU like the Xbox 360, it has a single core 1ghz ARM CPU as found in the iPad.
If an Xbox 360 can't play the media your have in mind then the ATV2 has no chance.

Yeah, but the 360 cannot handle a LOT of containers/codecs/audio/etc
I can't see how device supports it, but can't play it like you're saying...
anyone else have experience with these larger movies/rips and playing them on ATV2?

I've played several 1080p movies without issue but anything above about 12-15mbps average bitrate and the ATV2 runs out of horsepower.

I wonder if ATV3 will help in that area?
