Need advice for the perfect setup with the following things in mind.
#1
1. I hate lights so no blinking lights e.t.c

2. I hate the sound of a fan so preferably no fans if possible.

3. I would only be getting the movies of the other computers on the LAN so I'd connect the device to the internet so an Hd wouldn't be needed but an SD for fast startup e.t.c would be nice.

4. The case would need to be as small as possible.

5. It would have to be able to play 1080p movies so ram/cpu or any other hardware needed for that is what I'm looking for.

6. Some kind of a remote like the microsoft remote but have in mind that I'd be using ubuntu to run xbmc and if no remote is to be found (haven't found anything my self) I guess I could use my ipod/android.

If anyone could be nice enough to find the necessary things for me I'd be greatly appreciated and hopefully this thread would help others with the same things in mind. Smile

Gonna need to add a pricey OS to that build above, unless Linux drivers for the Zacate are up to snuff. Are they yet?

Several people posted on this forum that it was running well on Linux.....but I can't confirm as I have no experience with linux and haven't tried with my Zacate system. I use Windows 7 and just launch XBMC when I wanna watch my movies or shows.

You didn't factor in the cost of the OS in your build, is my point. One of the appeals of ION builds is that they run very well on a free OS.

I'm keen to see once (if) Ubuntu/X.org gets decent Zacate support with GPU playback without the hacks/messing about - personally I'm very keen to upgrade my XS35 to a Zacate system - simply due to the fact that their motherboards have a better number of SATA ports vs. the crop of ION2 boards available (2 SATA doesn't really cut it for me if I want to upgrade).

Keen to build a new XBMC system that can double as a fileserver with 3-4 hard drives, I guess I could drop in a Nvidia video card but would rather just use the full Zacate stack with decent playback without having to add further hardware - and going Windows just isn't an option - want to stick with Ubuntu/Linux.

Can be done, requires a little tinkering....

Thanks allot that is precisely what I had in mind. Smile But does that remote work with xbmc? I'm just wondering because the remote requirements are
"System Requirement: Requires a Windows Media Center Technologies running in Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate PC"
or does it work with ubuntu/xbmc ?

Your welcome......Yes the remote works with xbmc right out of the box, to navigate and play your movies, but In less than 5 minutes you can customize it to even launch xbmc rather than windows media center. This is the remote I use In my living room, I love it, the kids love it, and most importantly the wife. They just hit the green button and xbmc launches and then they just navigate through are media and play pause rewind forward etc. It come's with the ir reciever too, which is cool, you can get a harmony and just mimic this remote that is already set up, and you can use just one remoter to control your tv av and xbmc. It's easy don't worry, just a simple walkthrough, I'll be glad to help if you need assistance.

Thanks and I'll contact you to ask for assistance if needed but it won't be soon as I'm not located in the US so I'd probably just be getting the setup after a few months.
I'll hope you will still be on the here when that happens and contact you if needed and again thank you allot I never would have managed to set up a system with all the things I was looking for with out your help.
