Receiver for Logitech Harmony One
#1
Hello Friends,

I'm a big XBMC fan and want to control it with my Harmony One remote. I have the following remote, whose receiver seems to be incompatible with the Harmony:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/TRIXES-Computer-...849&sr=8-5

I think it uses some IR protocol that Harmony doesn't understand.

I need to get another receiver and wanted to take advice from you about compatibility. I found the following which I can get in India. Would anyone know if they will work with the Harmony? Any other suggestion (cheaper, better) you could recommend would also be helpful:

Please advice as most of these get shipped from overseas and I really don't want to end up with another unworkable receiver...

Thanks,
Heinlein

Apologies. I am on Win 7 Ultimate.

I am searching for 5188-1667 but availability and shipping to India is hard to find...

There are a lot of HP ones that look the same but the IR part number differs e.g. the one below is 5187-4597. You think it would work?

Thanks for your help, eskro and X. Really appreciate it.

I couldn't give you a definite yes but I would be very surprised if any of those HP receivers wasn't recognised under windows 7 and installed with the ehome drivers

Mine looks the same, but after checking the model # it is a 5187 - 4593. I'm running ubuntu and use a Harmony One to control everything. This has been setup for over a year now and I've encountered 0 problems.

Sorry but that is just plain wrong, I have the remote in the OP's Ebay link and it works fine with my Harmony 555 remote.

I have a different version as well and installs with ehome I really don't think your have any problems under windows 7

I believe using a (P/N: 5188-1667) is to guaranteed to work out of the box under Linux

Hmm. Looks like both would work. Just to be safe, let me get the HP one and hopefully it should work.

I shall post my experience here in case it helps other people. With luck it will be a happy one...

Thanks again, guys!

Just look at pictures, make sure that the receiver/remote has RC6 stamped on it somewhere and you are good to go.

I have a question, does anybody have a how-to for this constellation?
That would be great.
I ordered a new ir receiver from HP and have a Logitech Harmony.
Now i would reinstall xbmc and i am open minded for linux, windows oder xbmc live.
So now i need a guide.

I Got two Hp Ir receivers from ebay, and had to edit LIRC_MCEUSB.C to get them going.

For linux follow this guide. Worked PERFECT!!

Use
Code:
lsusb
you will probably see something like
Code:
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 1934:5168
Note the ID number. First four digits are manufacture number, 2nd set of four is device number. Then follow instructions below.

gastric Wrote:I just had to do this again after a clean LIVE! 10.1 install and compiled the full step-by-step directions.

  1. CTRL+ALT+F1 to enter Linux command prompt
  2. SUDO IRW
  3. Press some keys on your remote, nothing will likely appear on screen
  4. SUDO APT-GET INSTALL LIRC-MODULES-SOURCE
  5. FIND / -NAME 'LIRC_MCEUSB.C'
  6. Note the full path which should be /user/src/lirc-0.8.6/drivers/lirc_mceusb/lirc_mceusb.c
  7. CD /USER/SRC/LIRC-0.8.6/DRIVERS/LIRC_MCEUSB
  8. VI LIRC_MCEUSB.C
  9. User arrow keys to scroll down. Towards the top there's a master list of vendors and their vendor ID, scroll past that until you see a large list of vendor names and device ID. My vendor ID is in the list as FINTEK so I scrolled down and simply modified an existing device ID.
  10. Use the DEL key to delete the current device ID, 0x0602
  11. Press the INS key to be able to type the new device ID 0x5168
  12. Press the INS key to exit typing mode
  13. :W
  14. :Q
  15. sudo su
  16. sudo dkms remove -m lirc -v 0.8.6 --all
  17. sudo dkms add -m lirc -v 0.8.6
  18. sudo dkms -m lirc -v 0.8.6 build
  19. sudo dkms -m lirc -v 0.8.6 install
  20. sudo rmmod lirc_mceusb
  21. sudo rmmod lirc_dev
  22. sudo modprobe lirc_mceusb
  23. sudo modprobe lirc_dev
  24. sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart
  25. sudo irw
  26. Press keys on your remote, you should see them registered on screen
  27. CTRL+C
  28. sudo reboot
  29. Enjoy using your remote

Hopefully I fully documented all of the directions properly and without any typos.

Good luck! Smile

I hope this helps you, as it did the trick for me.
