Hi everyone,

During the weekend I uploaded the latest XBox only version of my skin to my google code page.

Zip file can be found Here

Changelog for latest version :-
1.0.0
- Added animated weather icons and updated the weather info screen
- New media info flag graphics, Thanks Chip from over at http://community.mediabrowser.tv/
- Changed font to Ubuntu font as previous fonts were not open source.
- Added support for the default XBMC font to handle any characters not covered by the Ubuntu font
- Fixed issue with background fanarts.
- Added settings to select YouTube and 'Wake on Lan' script.
- Favourites can now be added to home menu.
- Major Performance boost with most view types, Thanks to Sharpe of Back-Row skin for suggestions.
- Themes now available for ALL platforms, download and install from System menu . Thanks to Dan Dar3 for writing the new themes script.
- Fixed a number of issues with volume level display.
- Reduced the volume of in skin sounds to make them less intrusive.
- Plus numerous minor bug fixes and graphical clean-ups.

Non XBox version will follow later (hopefully in the main XBMC addons repo). If you have any problems post here, otherwise enjoy. I will update the first post of this thread when I resolve the status of the Non Xbox build of the skin.

Lipo was going to release together with the Non XBox version of the skin just before Xmas but had a few issues with the car and then the repo guardians pinged me on a number of issues with the skin. As the Xbox version was ready and it could be upto a week before I can resolve the issues, I thought it best to just release the Xbox version. I am about to make another run at the XBMC repo and see if I can't get the skin accepted this time.

On the XBox 18M free is not a low memory situation (that is what your log file is showing). A new feature of the skin is to show a message at the top of the screen when there is less than 10% free memory remaining (about 6M on the XBox)

Not sure what the issue is here, will take another look at fanart handling when I get a chance

I also received a low memory error for the first time, under list view using fan art, but have since disabled it. It's fine as I don't really need the fan art. Also, I recently installed the YouTube plugin v1.9.6 BETA. How can I have the YouTube shortcut on the homepage link to it? Whenever I try to do, I'm asked for the direction to the script yet this is a plugin. Any help?

ocmdiaz, I have no idea why you would see low memory errors (I'm running my xbox at 720p with fanart and have no issues at all), please post a FULL debug log (see my sig for details) so that I can check this out.

Sorry, probably my bad on this one. I noticed the problem on the Non XBox build and fixed it, but obviously forgot to make the change to the XBox build. Will investigate and post a fix.

I'm having a hard time creating a log file and couldn't manage to receive the error while in debug mode. Oo The video I had playing did do poorly though while scrolling movies in list mode, I would guess it was due to 100% CPU usage. Thanks for the help though. Also, as for the music videos, I simply created a shortcut to the music videos in file modes so I can easily access the plugins folder to YouTube, it's a good temp. fix.

UPDATE: I got the log file.

ocmdiaz,

Not hard to produce a log. Goto System -> Settings -> System -> Debugging and toggle on the debug log. Do whatever was causing the problem and then copy the xbmc.log (located in the root directory of xbmc) file to a online file site and post the link. Simple!

If you are having a problem, there is a fair chance that someone else will also. I can't fix what I don't know about (and have the info to track down the problem).

Just the same, have you tried to play the video in another skin (a light weight one like PM3 would be good). If you have a problem with a number of skins, there's a good chance that it is not skin related. Just remember the poor old xbox can only do so much.

ocmdiaz,

Thank you pastbin is a better way to post for future reference. Quick question, how big are your fanart files as just before your memory issues start there is a warning about a file size problem? Or maybe it could be the actual video file? What is the resolution of the fanart file for A Bronx Tale and how big is the video file?

You had 37M of memory just before you played the video file, which then dropped to 3M (very bad). So it seems to be an issue with playing that file.

Well, the fan art for that specific film was downloaded via the default scrapper, TMDb. The image resolution is 1280x720 with a size of 216kb. The film's size itself stands at 1.4gb.

ocmdiaz,

Just had another look at your log file. The fanart is probably fine (most of my fanart is 1280 x 720 and it runs fine). I think the problem is with how A Bronx Tale is encoded. The hint is with the file extenstion (.mp4). Unless you are REALLY careful with the encode parmeters, the XBox just can't handle H264 encoding of video.

All I can say is to check if there is a problem playing this file with another skin (one even lighter than xTV SAF) and see if you are still having problems. Looking at the log file it will have to be a VERY light weight skin because you managed to get down to 60K free memory.

Sorry can't really help much more than that.

I understand we're no longer in talks about the skin and this topic is based on the skin, but just wanted to ask, if fine with you, is it the video playback of this large file which takes up a large amount of ram? The video size is really large and I'm going to try to turn into a 700mb avi, along with any other files over a gig.

ocmdiaz,

Yep this is moving away from the thread topic, but here goes anyway. The problem is not so much how big the file is, more how complex the codex being used is. Now unless your movie is as long as "Gettysburg" (the movie that is) I would say that it is encoded at maybe 1280x720, which is a bit pointless if you are watching it in NTSC SD. The poor XBox will not only be taxed decoding the file (because the codec that you are using is heavy on memory and CPU), but also will need to scale the frames down to your SD resolution.

If you re-encode the file as a AVI it will be larger than the current file unless you also scale it down at the same time. That said the AVI file will be less complex and therefore lighter on the memory and CPU (and will probably play on the XBox with no problems).

Here are a couple of links to get more info on your problem:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=63219 a forum thread on using Handbreak to encode a XBox friendly h264 format file.

http://www.xbmc4xbox.org/wiki/index.php?title=HOW-TO_Encode_H.264_Videos_Compatible_With_XBMC_For_Xbox A wiki on how to encode XBox friendly files over at www.xbmc4xbox.org (the new home of XBox build of XBMC).

I suggest you head over to the XBox forum at http://www.xbmc4xbox.org/forum/ were you will no doubt find someone to help out with XBox type problems. Hope this helps.

Nice work wyrm - grabbing this for the xbox in the back room!

Requesting a hint, please - zebraitis - 2011-01-16

Wyrm,

First, great job, excellent skin! Nod

I just finished reviewing 27 different skins, their memory use, and their ability to stay thin while delivering a great experience, and your xTV skin, v 1.0.0 is the best of the list.

While I have two Win7 64bit XBMC's, I also have three XBMC4Xbox systems.

It was on the Xbox platform that I did the test, and when loaded with Theme Tango, Colors Tango, Fonts XBMC default, it's a nice blue that the wife will surely approve. To save memory, I an running 480p on the desktop and playing the video also at 480p (on a 720p 32" 16x9 it looks fine).

So, now the question:

Everythying seems to work great except for fanart. On the library view, no matter which specific view is chosen, I get a plain black background. On .ISO's that I know do not have fanart, it defaults to the blue Tango background.

(fyi: fanart worked on other tested skins at that resolution)

What I could not find was a setting to turn Fanart off. Is there one?

Any general idea why the fanart would not display?

I will monitor this thread and provide any information that you may need to help me resolve this.

Thanks!

v.

Found it.

System /Settings / Skin / Bckground /

... and either "use visuals as background" or "Use fanart as background".

(... I always find it AFTER I post. D'oh! )

Still, great skin!
