I have an MS-Tech MC1200 case with integrated IR.

IR receiver is coupled to the powerswitch and USB. Extension cord between PSU and Mobo provides IR receiver with auxillary power (when off).

WMC compatible remote included can power on and off the system.

The IR receiver noted above looks alot like the built in one I have.

when building my htpc i also wanted this feature.
i ended up buying this: Antec Multimedia IR Receiver

easy to install and small.
comes with crap software and crap remote.
so i taught my logitech remote the on/off button
and presto! works like a charm and saves me the walk

hope this is what you were looking for.

p.s. i should add that i only use it for the on/off feature only. for all my other needs i use the HP receiver
TV - 70" LG UM6970PUA
AVR - Denon x2400h 5.2.2 Surround
Devices - Apple TV 4K, nVIDIA Shield TV Pro
Server - unRAID Pro, v6.9 | Asus TUF Gaming x570-Plus (Wifi) | AMD Ryzen 9 3950x | 64GB G.SKILL | 12TB Dual Parity + 92TB Storage

i have to admit something,
the fact that its relatively cheap and requires an external 3.5" drive bay
makes it the perfect companion for HTPC cases
like the famous APEX MI-008/MI-100 or Thermatake Element Q!!

yes, everything about iMON software is crappy, trust me,
its a real POS....

but, for turning ON&OFF your HTPC,
if you happen to have a free external 3.5" drive bay,
then, its great!!

oh yeah and,
what type connections does it require to hook it up?

only one motherboard USB header + one 4pin peripheral (molex)?
