audio over hdmi

so I'm pretty new to xbmc previous to this I was using MYMOVIES as my htpc program. So I've gotten everything set up but I don't get any audio from ripped DVD files or DVD iso's. It works fine for non DVD's. When I start a DVD the video works perfectly but it gives me a message that it failed to initialize audio device, check audio settings. What I have running is a acer aspire revo. Xbmc is natively installed on the machine running win vista. This is the most recent version of xbmc installed 3 days ago.

audio output: hdmi

speaker configuration: 7.1
boost volume on
Dolby digital on
dts capable receiver on
audio output: directsound Nadia hdmi output

I've searched the forums but didn't really see anything that matched up with my issue, also most other fixes are from old releases.

ay help would be greatly appreciated.

you can try these settings- xbmc settings
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!
