My SSD's dead, looking for a new one...

Yepp, SSD gone for good.

it all started when i was trying to install .NET framework v4,
which was insane to do after following like 34 different tutorials,
not to mention, Windows Updates wouldn't install returning failure codes...
the last 24 hours have been painful ....

in then END, i succeeded into installing .NET v4 standalone,
but not before having to install all windows critical updates...
then, i thought it was it, but when trying to install SP1, it failed,
then i saw a BDSO, then DISK BOOT FAILURE...
there's nothing i can do anymore....

My normal WD drive is detected fine, no issues,
my SSD, appears and disappears during BIOS POSTS....
....
i tried both SATA and Power cables from my WD drive,
cuz maybe its the cables i dunno, but in vain, same stuff,
my SSD, appears and disappears during BIOS POSTS....

tried different SATA ports and other stuff, but in the END,
im really convinced its my SSD.

i think my warranty is over too... i'll contact CORSAIR lets see....
damn, this sucks.... SSD's are so fragile...

I dont think SP1 killed my drive i mean, its a software...
and its not the first time im having a boot issue with my SSD.

meaning, sometimes, it wouldnt get detected,
where i had to reboot the machine and then it picked it up...
ayways,,,

you guys try to cheer me up Tongue

Okay, maybe my misfortune will cheer you up. Last weekend I figured I'd install the W8 consumer preview on my main desktop/audio workstation. Installed it so I could dual boot back to the existing WinXP system. Long story short - the mouse is fine in the bootloader and in W8CP, but is not recognized in XP anymore - it's like there is no mouse plugged in. Actually, about one in ten boot attempts the mouse will show up. Changed mouse, uninstalled mouse drivers, installed mouse drivers, safe mode, no driver conflicts, changed RAM, blah blah blah. Wasted a bunch of time and no solution.

So I am turning the misfortune and frustration into an upgrade opportunity. I'm going to shift some stuff around, get a NAS, get a new Zotac AD-04, and re-build a more up-to-date machine to be my main desktop/audio workstation.

You should do the same. Well maybe not the same but something like that. You get the idea.

Cheer up Eskro. What's the worst that can happen, you have to buy a Torqx2?
You'll feel much better after you light the fuse on that rocket!

You can try a secure erase using Parted Magic - http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=downloads
I've used it several times and it's simple to do. If it fails to work after a few try's, leave the computer set on the bios for a few hrs. with the sata cable off, giving power to the controller. It may recover enough for you to secure erase the drive.

Best of luck my friend, I have faith in you.

yeah, well, everything works ok
and my HTPC is rather High-End too.
guess i'll have to find a deal on a TORQX2...

Driver 944

Parted Magic will only work if it detects the drive.
which in my case, the BIOS doesnt...
i tried a bunch of tools in HIRENS BOOT CD,
but they all fail to detect the Failed SSD....
again, guess i'll have to find a deal on a TORQX2...
Man, PC hardware is fragile.

Kirky99
i think it is still $75 after rebate,
but im after the torqx2 which also has a $15 MIR.
and ims till waiting on my MIR from XFX HD6450.
its been 3 months now...

That happened to my Vertex 2 so it sat in my closet collecting dust for about a year. I simply updated the firmware and performed SecureErase recently and all was well. Big Grin

but like i said, to apply a firmware,
BIOS needs to detect it in first place.
if not, your screwed.
oh yeah and, there's no firmware for my NOVA SSD...

My drive also didn't appear in BIOS. However when I tried another SATA port it would appear in BIOS and Windows on the first boot and disappear again. So what I did was unplug all my drives and plugged in only my Vertex 2 into a random port, and used the Linux-based bootable firmware updater from OCZ. I believe your Corsair drive is also Sandforce based. Your problem also sounds very similar to mine. Best of luck with saving your drive.

and i tried the parted magic procedure using CORSAIR's PDF tutorial to Secure Erase,
and, im wondering if its normal that the erase procedure took like 2 seconds to complete?
it said it could take up to 40 minutes LoL ....
i dont think 2 seconds is normal...

but anyways, i cant install my O/S backup since my recovery application
doesnt detect the drive either... im screwed...

@eskro-
Sorry to say this- you must be a bad luck guy. This is the second times something die in your HTPC. If there isn't anyway to erase the dead drive, you will need to drill a couple holes in it before discard it.

For $65 shipped, you can have this- Patriot Torqx 2 PT264GS25SSDR 2.5" 64GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD). Smile
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

"Bootmgr is missing" issues are crazy....
nothing works, i tried all,,,

what i dont get is,
if i created a backup of my O/S,
using a disk imaging application,
when i tried to restore my backup,
which i know worked since i restored it before on my HTPC,
well, i dont get why this time,
it gives me also the BOOTMGR MISSING issue after a restore....

i mean, isnt disk imaging tools supposed to do that,
let u restore without problems a backup made earlier?

WTF
