XBMC Eden DXVA HD 3650
#1
Hi, can someone please help me with this issue I am having. For the past few years I have been able to watch 720p videos smoothly on my system with XBMC and MPC-HC with DXVA enabled.

My specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E8400 @3GHz
4GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3650 256MB

Last week I upgraded my monitor from a 26" 1280x786 to a Dell U2711 27" 2560x1440.

I am able to watch my TV shows that are 720p inside XBMC & MPC-HC which is up scaled to 1440p. However, when I play 1080p videos inside XBMC it plays fine but has trouble seeking. Playing 1080p videos in MPC-HC gives slow frame rate. Disabling DXVA allows 1080p to play but with high CPU usage. Even with DXVA enabled, XBMC reports around 40% CPU usage playing 720p & 1080p both up scaled to 1440p. Before the monitor upgrade the CPU usage used to be around 5%.

Can this problem be due to the fact the HD 3650 is to weak to up scale to 1440p?

Do you guys recommend the HD 6450 / HD 6570?

Thanks in advance.

If it is me, I would couple a powerful E8400 with a sronger Nvidia GT430 or AMD HD6570.....
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Thank you bluray for your input, I have ordered a "Sapphire HD 6570 1GB Ultimate Graphics Card"

the 6450 would have been more than enough... and the fanless ones are like $30 these days.
I'm not an expert but I play one at work.

I was thinking of getting a HD 6450 but decided on a passive HD 6570 after reading this

The HD 6570 will perform better with Video Post Processing.

The HD 6450 is about $46 and the HD 6570 is about $82 in the UK.

hi akashi, i have the radeon 3650, too and a compareable cpu like yours and would say the graphics card is definetly not to weak.
(for me 1080p runs perfectily on tv@ 1920x1080, higher didn't tested yet).
i would say maybe it's the cpu because the hardest work watching films is for cpu i think

e: my gpu has has 512mb

Hi Tim,

I was very happy with my 3650 until I upgraded my monitor to 2560x1440. 720p videos still play perfectly, but 1080p videos struggle with this GPU. I know the CPU is fast enough as when I disable DXVA, the CPU is able to play the 1080p videos perfectly (with high CPU usage).

I think the 3650 has problems upscaling 1080p to 1440p, otherwise works fine.

Not really anything to do with this topic, but you guys who are/have been running Radeon 3650, which version of Catalyst are you using?
Eden is crashing at startup on my "old" system and I have suspected it has been due to my Radeon 3650.
Tried on both XP and a fresh install of Win7.

Dharma works great though.
