is there anyway to have xbmc run one monitor1 but get all vidoe and visulisation etc to play play on monitor2 simultaniously

Not possible...

With that statement in mind, it might be possible to utilize a remote application to control XBMC while it's on a second screen with a control program.
(e.g. My browser can instigate slide shows etc on XBMC, and if it's on the second screen.... control).

This may come to pass if XBMC can be made to utilize more than one instance of itself in a multi-tasking way, but not at the present.

I found program, which can make a shortcut to switch active window of XBMC to next monitor. Then you can use "\" button, to maximize view.
It's small program, call "Dual Monitor Tools - Swap Screen"
