Question
i have ripped a dvd using dvd decriptor into my hard disk. i then use xbmc to browse to the directory and can only see the file video_ts.ifo. when i ty to play the file by clicking on it, nothing happens. how can i use xbmc to play dvd files that are ripped on the hard disk?
#2
is there a setting to enable the dvd player in xbmc? or should clicking the ifo file automatically launch the dvd player? can anyone tell me why isn't clicking on the video_ts.ifo file giving me any response?
#3
if you only see the video_ts.ifo then you either have stacking on or you didnt ripp the disc properly.
clicking on video_ts.ifo should play the movie. what date is your build of xbmc from?
XFX nFORCE 630I, ASUS EN9400gt (512m), Antec Fusion V2 case, E6850 @ 3Ghz, 2GB 800mhz Ram.

oh yes, i have stacking set to on.

anyway, i have ripped the dvd correctly as i am able to watch it on my pc using powerdvd. but when i click on the video_ts.ifo on my xbmc, nothing happened. that's why i am asking is there any setting i need to enable the dvd player in xbmc? my xbmc version is 2006-06-18 t3ch build.
#5
cant think of any settings. you may need to update your version of xbmc. a month can be a very long time with the amount of updates made to the source.

i'd check the log file if i where you. you probably have a broken install, or that dvd is vey broken.

there seeems to be some problem with my dvd player playing dvd ripped on to my network drive. here is the log file. can anyone suggest what seems to be the problem? is there any settings that could have affected this, eg cache setting set too small, or other reasons???

(ps: i don't think its a broken install as i was able to use xbmc to play dvds with menus using the dvd tray)

could it be a cache issue? it couldn't be a samba sharing problem as i was able to play the .vob files in the same directory, it's just the .ifo files that has no respond when i click on it.

i'm new (like 2 days into it) using xbmc but i modded my xbox for the sole purpose of streaming my dvds from my 300gb harddrive upstairs. anway, before i used xbmc i used a roku photobridge for this purpose and it worked great but the interface wasn't all the exciting - hence the plunge into the depths of xbmc.

long story short, i ripped all my dvds in ifo/vob format simply b/c the photobridge could not read isos and subsequently could not support dvd menus. so... i'm able to play by ifo/vob files perfectly with the latest version of xbmc but it sounds like i have mine organized a bit differently than you. i simply have one folder for each movie and then within the folder i have one ifo file and several vob files (capped at 1gb each) and xbmc plays the sequence of files perfectly with no other action from me except for hitting play on the dvd cover art. so i think the only difference for me is that i don' thave the file in a ts_video folder... give it a shot and maybe it will work.

huh.. i though i posted here..
that is no debug log.. you need to hold x, y on startup to get one. (make sure free mem is visible)

i think the problem lies in:

debug: libdvdnav: can't read name block. probably not a dvd-rom device.
05:54:50 m: 38064128 warning: unable to remove tracked file from tracker
05:54:50 m: 38064128 info: msg: libdvdnav: unable to find map file 'q:\dvdplayer/.dvdnav/.map'

anyone can suggest a solution to this problem?
#14
if you can, try a newer version of xbmc.
#15
elupus, i have uploaded the whole debug log file at sourceforge, the link is http://sourceforge.net/tracker/download....id=1521032

mebby, i have tried your suggestion to the same result - unplayable ifo files.

can anyone else suggest anything?
