Question
Hi,

I've got xbmc working fine on my ATV, but want to know if there is a way to getting Dolby Digitla 5.1 working via tos-link (optical)?

It seems to be locked to DTS.

Thanks
Monty

DTS > DD5.1 - but it sounds like a receiver issue more than xbmc. Check in system settings to make sure digital out is enabled and that dd and dts are selected.

edit:
just read this is atv... doesnt it do audio out via hdmi? --still need to check the xbmc system settings for digital

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.

I mis-guided you a little. It runs xbmc in ProLogic mode ok, but not D-Digital or DTS modes.

When I plug my xbox back in and switch xbmc on, I get DTS & D-digital (depending on what I'm viewing).

Is ATV limited to Dolby Prologic only?

Thanks

No - DTS and DD both work fine via the optical output. If they don't work for you then check the system audio settings. I believe they may be disabled by default.

Wondering if this is the same issue I posted about awhile back? I'm hoping there's a fix in place for the next release as it's a major bummer I can't get surround sound with XBMC.

And on Trac

@davilla (or one of the other dev's) - searching around I ran across some other work on Dolby Digital going on and was wondering if any of this would be applicable to my/our issues?

http://trac.xbmc.org/changeset/18460

Or if not do you know if there's any work going on in regards to AC3/DTS?

TIA!

Neither the thread(Windows Only) nor the commit(Branch Project) is relevant to the issue being discussed here.

Oops, sorry, I saw the following from MontyAus and thought it might be the same issue I'm having with Dolby Digital not playing for me through XBMC (Note: My ATV plays DD fine through an ATV plugin like Sapphire, it just doesn't work with XBMC). And I was also hoping some of that work going on would filter over to us with ATV's.

ffmpeg 0.5 released on Marth, the 10th... has changed from liba52 to libac3... this may solve ac3 passthrough problem on XBMC.

I don't have a tiger with me to compile it. has anyone compile XBMC with the new ffmpeg ?

XBMC != ffmpeg. We still use liba52. However, any passthrough issues you are seeing are likely not due to the codec lib. Per davilla's request, we really need some samples/logs to look at. AC3 passthrough over S/PDIF should be working just fine.

Question
Hi,

Yeah it's interesting, because when I run XBMC (maybe for the last years) on my xbox, I get the DTS/DD/5.1/AC3 passthrough to work fine.
You also have the option under the Audio settings menu to 'output to all speakers' when playing audio files.

So on ATV, this is not the case and you only get the passthrough and output to the 5.1 on selected video files.

So getting back to my origional question, I'm assuming this is a xbmc on atv bug, rather then ATV hardware issue?

Thanks

MontyAus, please read the following post: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=47124 and provide us with the requested information, as well as some background about your external setup (i.e. receiver, etc.). Perhaps then we will be able help resolve your problem. It is difficult to say what is causing your problem, however, I can assure you that there are at least some users successfully using AC3 passthrough over S/PDIF from the atv, so there is hope.

Question
Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I'll get you the info when I get home (what I need to check).

Running ATv 2. (os version/build to come).
Running launcher 2.3 (had 0.6 but updated it 2 days ago).
Running lastest build of XBMC which downloads from the 'software update' menu. Think it's beta 2 (Will confirm build).

My home theatre receiver is a Pioneer Slimline dd/dts/5.1 unit with DSPF input. http://www.plasma.com/pioneersound/vsx-c300.htm

Hope this helps.

From what I've read in these forums, it seems more like a software issue than the receiver. the channel in which the AC3 passthrough is on 2 or 3 seems inconsistent.

Regards
Montyaus
