WIP Cooler for A10-5700 + FM2A85X-ITX
#1
I'm working on this build but not sure which CPU cooler will work with this board considering the surface mount components on the back of the board where the plate would mount. (see pics below). The case will be selected based on the cooler as I don't want to fry the build during heavy load.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ?

Please post some pics of your cooler mounts on this board - both sides if you can. Thanks.

I just installed the big shuriken 2 on the same motherboard. Easy install and does a great job keeping it cool. You will need low profile ram because its real close. Below is a pic of what it will look like on your board. As you can see barely any space between ram and cooler.

JxPx, Thanks for info.

1. Can you post an image of the reverse side of the board showing the mounting plate ?
2. What model ram chips are those ?

Sadly I did not take any shots of the reverse side. I would have to take my HTPC apart. The mounting plate has 4 holes with pads that line up with the stock mounting clips that you will remove. Below is a link to my build and you can go to the last page and see final pics and part list. Also if you YouTube shuriken 2 install, you can watch a guy do the install and he will show the back side with plate, not your board, but its a universal plate, so very similar.

There are also small black grommets/washers that act as a cushion between the MOBO and the Shuriken. Make sure you use them.

Can't find a Canadian source for the "Scythe SCBSK-2100 Big Shuriken 2 Rev B Heat Pipe CPU Cooler". Will keep looking.

Any other good alternatives out there ?

How about this one:

How does the backplate work? Is it pressing against the chip?

It's the last part still to arrive so I will post some pics once I have it.

I would like to know as well. Looking at the backplate's dimensions its seems like it would press against the components on the underside of the motherboard, which would be a very bad thing,

Hi Smile
I have bought a ASRock FM2A85X-ITX and a rad with a backplate that is not compatible with this MB (Prolimatech Lynx) Sad
What rad have you bought ? Scythe Big Shuriken ? There is no problem with backplate ?
Thanks !

+1 on the Big Shuriken 2, I use it on my board as well which is an A75, but it should be the same layout. Works great.

I have finished my system with that board a few days ago...
As cpu cooler I used the Thermaltake Contact 30, but I changed the fan to a be quiet! Silent Wings 2 120 PW and everything fitted in my Fractal Design Node 304, but I have to say it was a little tricky to get everything inside.
I solved the backpalte problem by adding 2 small plastic rings (had them from other be quiet fans - normally used for mounting them) at each screw between the backplate and the mainboard, so be backplate can't damage the board.
Sadly I have no pictures of the back side of the board, but I can take some of the system in the case and add them later.
